The Red 997 Aero Returns

The Red 997 Aero Returns
I did it again. I stopped by Leith Porsche today and John was kind enough to let me take a run in the 2006 red 997 C2 with factory aero kit that was on the lot. Like the last guards red 997 C2 aero I drove there, I was impressed but not blown away by the torque/horsepower. It was mostly noticeable for me in 1st and 2nd gears. Of course, I wasn't on a track.
However, the handling was excellent, as was the exhaust note. Also, the alcantara ceiling liner was beautiful. But, most of all, it had the sport bucket seats that held me perfectly still while I throttled through some nice turns. I was able to imagine braking into turn 1 at VIR and not experiencing roll as I accelerated throught the turn.
When I came home, it occurred to me that a C2S that's exactly the same color combination and year lives on the other side of my neighborhood. I wouldn't enjoy seeing the same Porsche coming at me on the road - call me superficial. So, I'll have to wait until the next temptation comes along.

I know you're right - your advice was right on the last time. But, I saw that red car at Leith and I was drawn to it like a moth to a flame. WTF?
Thanks to that test drive today, I would really like to replace my seats with the sport seats, upgrade my suspension and upgrade my exhaust.
I hope you had a great time at the track last weekend. How could you not? It's VIR.

Seriously though, keep an eye out in the Classifieds. We just helped George score some PSS9s for his cab for $800! He's got new (to him) wheels on the way soon also.
It never disappoints, even in the rain! What really surprised me what with just a few minor input tweaks, and a slightly different line in a few sections, the speed really comes. White was a great group at this event. Martin got bumped to Blue, and George and Charles are also very close to getting bumped up.

The red one is nice, but I'm partial to black so I think this one looks better:
This shot is Pre-White Gloves of Terror
Notice how nobody else feels worthy enough to park next to your black beauty.
Bob, I hope you and your family have a nice Thanksgiving. Same goes for the rest of you guys.

Bob, I agree with the ECLOU. I am partial to the mark 1 aeros myself.
While the red aero is nice, I am sure that the difference between your car and it are not worth the approx $40 difference that Leith will want. Always, when I start looking at newer 911's, I can't justify the cost of upgrading to a slightly newer car with mostly the same construction and problems. Now, once the 2009's start to hit the used market in a couple of years, my opinion may be different.

Wow, Michael you pulled out an old school coffee gathering photo from the Bean & Bagel. Miss those cooked to order bagels with a fried egg
Bob, I have the answer for you. Get the red aero and KEEP the MkI. Don't worry, we have a guest room.

I can't argue with you, Michael. You make a strong case, what with the photos 'n all. I love my 996.
+1 with eclou - I receive lots of compliments, as I'm sure Randy does!
I would need that guest room if I bought the 2nd Porsche - please stand by.
And, as for the Bean & Bagel, I miss that morning meal too. That was a great place to meet. Of course, Mark and his team and WZ are pretty awesome. But, I wish they had some bagels.
