I think it's a great way to reduce the weight of the OEM exhaust, get a better sound, and purchase well below retail. The key is matching your year 996, and model to the 'used' system. GL lots of options with owners who bought aftermarket, but found the sound too loud, or not to their liking.

I bought a Fabspeed exhaust for my Boxster S used on ebay. It showed up in as new condition, barely used. I believe used exhausts are generally a safe bet. Just make sure you see good pics of actual exhaust for sale. A seller with good feedback is also a must.

depends on the seller really. You want to make sure it has all the components and clamps needed. Also if the exhaust system has a lot of miles on it I would not want one from the east coast, may be too much corrosion. I am in SoCal and don't have to deal with that often, but you really notice when a car spent time on the east coast.

I bought my Billy Boat exhaust used off ebay and could not be happier. I have bought almost all of my mods used for at least 50% off the new price. By far, the best place to buy (and sell) Porsche parts is right here on Rennlist.

I just purchased a used set of Fabspeed Maxflow exhaust from Rennlist. I was happy with the purchase considering I paid 1/2 the current price with freight included. Had to replace the clamps that hold the tips for ease of install. Spent about 1 hour polishing the tips and exterior surface of the exhaust with Grade 00 Steel Wool and Mothers Billet Metal Polish. Some more oxidized areas I used 320 grit wet/dry paper with Metal Polish followed up with 00 Steel Wool. Finish came out great. As stated above make sure the seller has good reputation. Good Luck.
