Default $415 for a MAF from my Indy in the ball park

He said he'd install it at no charge because it would take him 2 minutes, but that part price seems high.

It's like $150...let me do some searching and I'll find you a link.

All you need is a tamper-proof T15 torx to change it out.

**Edit...I guess I paid more like $160 for mine. My car was a '99 non-egas car so that makes a difference.

You're being ripped off. Have you determined whether the engine runs with MAF disconnected yet? Waste of time and money is it doesn't.

It runs fine with the MAF. I have P1128 and 1130. He said it was most likely the MAF.

...and to be honest I feel a little obligated since he took the time to diagnose it for free. Great and well respected guy. Never charges me a dime for diagnosis.

Yes but NOW he is getting his money back from you. As Ed said - it almost replaces itself it's so easy!

Give him $50.00 for his time, you will still be ahead doing it yourself.

Only "nearly" done by just thinking about it? Try "totally" done by just thinking about it.

There...I just changed yours, Ed.

As I pulled back in to the office these were my thoughts exactly.

I will also do a search on cleaning the MAF since I've seen that mentioned a couple times.

Thanks for all the advice. Did anyone come up with the link for the less expensive MAF?

Thanks again,
Don

The bosch part (which porsche rebrands) sells for roughly half of the cheapest price you'll find for the Porsche branded Mass Air

I got the same codes P1128 and 1130 (read them with my $99. code reader) I cleaned the living sh** out of the MAF with CRC electronic cleaner and it never threw those codes again!!
6 months now.
Pull it out and clean it.

Cracked a Boddington and cleaned the MAF tonight. Hell, I was done before I got half way through my beer and I drink those babies fast. Thanks for the input guys and thanks for the link Dharn 55. If I need a new one I'll check that out. I hope the cleaning works.

PS If you think $415 was bad the local Porsche stealer, Baker Auto here in Charleston, wanted $873 for the part and $9XX including installation. Those guys suck.
