i run out of petrol..

In my handbook it says there is a "lever" on the steering column that i can set the computer to display "how many miles i have untill i run out of fuel. I dont have this "lever".

Is there another way i can get this info displayed below the speedmeter?

(I have the satnav, cd player, computer, air con ect.. )

i think all 996s have the computer. Perversely, if you bought the option when you ordered the car, they just put a different stalk on so you could access it. Early on, a lot of 996 owners 'hacked' the computer by buying the other stalk and installing it themselves. AFAIK, that's the only way to pull this info out of the computer.

You can get a stalk at a place like this, and install instructions are I think posted on Renntech.

Not only will you have to either get the stalk or do the OBC hack which has been discussed here many times, you will also have to have the dealer turn on the OBC feature. It's on all the cars but only turned ov for those that order the OBC. Takes just a few minutes with a PIWIS to turn on.

We just very recently, in the last couple weeks, ran a thread on this. Look for a thread titled Doomsday Clock, or search the word STALK and find the Doomsday thread there.

 

There is an idiot light on the gas gauge, too... use that.

In my car, I have about 2.5 gallons left in the tank when it comes on.

I just realized! I get to use.... wait for it....

Mine is under the blinker stalk and stubby in comparison. One of my sons must of hit it with his leg and did't know it, because the temp. wasn't displayed any longer, so I called him and he had no clue what I was talking about. After moving that shorter stalk I finally was able to tranistion through the menu and see all the info available.
