Default Faded front air dam

Anyone else suffer from a faded front air dam? I've seen it on other 996's and Boxsters where the black plastic air dam behind the bumper is faded grey/white. What are our options for getting it back to as-new condition? Armor All just ain't gettin' it done.

I use a product made by Mothers called Back To Black on mine.

It takes a fair amount of elbow grease, but it seems to work pretty well.

Tried Back to Black and it's not even making a slight difference. It seems to be the plastic has been 'oxidized' of sorts. Any other ideas? I suppose just a new replacement part may be the best option.

Tape off and repaint to color of your choosing, fusion canned paint for plastic's works well.

You really have to look to see that! Probably gets sand blasted by all the road debris and stuff. I say leave it and concentrate on the exterior trim you can see.

Only other option I can think of would be to pull it and paint it a glossy black with several layers of clear, then keep it up becuase it might chip, or, replace.

I have been using the stuff I use on the tires...Well it seems to work for me. I have to reapply every so often. Give it a try, the worst you will have to do is replace or paint. BTW I use to use a paint for vinyl on the plastic front airdam of my sons old pickup. It did pretty good for rattle can jobs.

I have used "Bumper & Trim Reconditioning Dye" from Griots Garage on this trim and all of the black rubber and black trim on my 1999 996. It has been a 1.5 years since application and it does not seem to have faded. I highly recommend you tape off the adjacent painted surfaces prior to application as it can stain your paint.

Paint is probably your best bet.

then the dye

Then dressing products which will need to be re-applied to maintain the look. Check out Black Wow if you go this route. It's messy as hell to use but works wonders.

The sem trim black is good, but sem bumper coater is intended for black bumper, spoiler and black grills.
Wash all that silicone off from all the previous toppings, with mineral spirits or laquer thinner,
Sand the part with 600 wet, and paint it.

There's a fairly new product out called "Black Wow" that some of the on-line detail supply vendors carry that works really well for this. Very simple to use.
