Angry My Car Got Keyed

So my 2002 C4S got keyed a couple of nights ago and I've been stewing since About a 3-inch horizontal gash just above the passenger door handle. It was parked in an underground parking lot in an apartment building. I've got an appointment with a detail shop next week to see if it can be worked out.

As I'm new to the Porsche world (just got my car in April this year) I would like to know from other owners the following:

1. Would the factory alarm have gone off?
2. Are there after-market alarms that might have prevented this? If so please list make & model.
3. Others that have had such an experience - will detailing get it out?

Thanks in advance for the info and letting me vent.

1) No
2) Maybe
3) Worth a try

Very sorry this happened to you. You need a garage. You should always own a garage before you own a Porsche.

3) Does your finger nail catch on the scratch. If so detailing cannot get it out.

I'll have to check. I know that I can feel it distinctly when I run my finger over it and the non-scratched surface.

A good detailer will be able to, at the very least, greatly reduce how noticeable the scratch is. Often what makes a scratch so visible is what is stuck down in the scratch.

There's no undoing it so just do what you can (detail, paint touch up) and move on...it happens to everybody. I think with a good detail you won't notice it that often.

Sucks. What color is your car? In some cases, the paint can be easily spot blended to avoid painting the entire door. GL!!

I guess you should feel fortunate it's only a 3" gash. Lot's of people leave this "gift" the entire length of the car. It does suck but it's fixable.

I think all people with nice cars worry about this. I always park away from other cars, but not too far away. I try to park in an end spot, and I never, ever take up more than one parking space.

sorry - that sucks!
what color car?

3" might actually have just been a fat a$$ getting into the car next door.... like Deckman said, "key jobs" are sometime much more brutal, sad to say "be thankful" but I think you should be (though still really fumed!!

GL and post pics if you can

You might want to DIY w/ the Dr. Colorchip product - you can probably get it restored to the point where it's barely noticeable. Sorry to hear of the damage - that totally sucks - but good luck w/ the repair.

No doubt! Don't do anything that makes your car stand out more than it already does (parking 300ft from the closest occupied parking space), or do anything to make people think that YOU think you're somehow privaleged, like that it's your right to take up two parking spots. To the jealous, this is invitation to harm your car.

Sorry about that remedy451, that really sucks. I'm always worried about parking anywhere, even at work, for fear that someone will open their door into my car. I'm not looking forward to that first big door ding. But maybe after that it'll take the edge off, and it'll be a 'beater'. Haa!

Thanks everyone for your condolences. What makes me think it was deliberate is that the car was parked in an underground parking lot. On the passenger side there was no other parking spot - so no reason for anyone to go on that side to get into another vehicle and that is where the scratch is. I'm very careful of where and how I park so as not to **** other drivers off.

The car is silver. Will find out more on Monday when I get back to town and take it to the detail shop. I'll post some pics then as well.

I tried Dr. Colorchip on a 3/4" vertical scratch that's through the paint on my wife's Mercedes, but the paint just comes off. I think the scratch is just too thin. I also triead Langka, but it just takes the paint right off, even after I've waited a few days. Anyone else have a technique that works on thin scratches?
