Default Pricing Guidance

Guys,

I know that the economy is bad and I also know that there are too many 996's out there but I wanted to get some thoughts on where I should price my car for sale. The ad is in the classifieds, ad number 9168. I am going to sell my car because I will be upgrading to a 996 GT3.

Basically the car is a 2000 C2 factory areo car with 26,500 miles on it. The car has never had any paint or body work, I purchsed the car certified pre-owned from Porsche and it has neve had any issues. I have replaced oil, brake fluid, rotors and pads as well as the mass airflow sensor.

The car is black on black and is in great condition. Basically I am looking for some thoughts on where I should price the car or what others have bought or sold similar cars for. Thanks for any assistance.

I think many people would say that $35k is a bit high, but IMO the aero stuff is a bigger issue. To some people it's a huge negative, thereby reducing the pool of buyers who would consider your car at any price. But to other people aero package cars look amazing and makes your car more desirable, and more valuable to them since it's so expensive to add the aero parts.

As with any car with a unique color, or extensive options, you're just waiting for the exact buyer whose taste is a perfect match for what you're selling. Chopping the price down to sell it quick isn't the right thing to do, unless you're in a must sell situation.

I've been hunting for the right 996 for some time and have spoken to various vendors and seen several cars sell before I got there. Just earlier this week I missed out on a very nice '02 C2 with 78K which was sold for $24K to a local dealer in California.

I think most '99 996 models (without a new motor and with 50K+ miles) are sub $20K cars. These are the cars that get sold. Obvioiusly there are exceptions and you need only find one buyer for a sale. For 2000 and 2001 models you can add a couple of thousand dollars and the properly optioned cars will always attract a premium from the right buyer. Your car is a low mileage example and you can expect a premium for that although your pool of purchasers gets smaller. The aero is a plus for some and a killer for others.
One can find 2002+ models with reasonable mileage listed at Porsche dealers and other dealers for $27K to $30K, somewhat more for very low mileage units. There are alot of 996 listed for more money, I'm just not sure they are moving.

You could do a lot better importing the car into Canada and selling it here. Your car would likely sell in the $35K to $40K range here, but the pool of buyers is even smaller.

All good information, keep it coming please. Interesting to note that the aero is a killer for some. I did not realize that. So would the general concensus be that a car such as mine should end up somewhere between $27K-$33K? Is that a fair assesment? We all know that there are good cars and there are questionable cars so some variation will be there. I guess I just need to find the right buyer.

I agree that the aero kit is a big drawback for the general public.
Enthusiasts may appreciate, but it is a vey dramatic visual difference from stock that many buyers will shy away from.

That is just the nature of the beast with big visual changes from what normally leaves the factory.

Other buyers, in the minority, will find it a huge plus.

Therefore, you may have better luck selling thru here or other enthusiast route versus autotrader.

Having purchased a 99 recently, I'd say $27k ballpark.

A lot depends on where you are. West coast market is much softer than some other areas, for example.

The wing is a Techart piece. The rest of the car is factory aero package. My understanding is the previous owner was not a fan of the taco wing so he had this installed. It is reminiscent of the 993 turbo but not exactly. Supposedly he spent about $5K having it installed. I have only seen one or two other cars with it, but I get complimented everywhere I go on the spoiler.

Beautiful car!! Low miles!! You should get top dollar. Problem is, I'm not really sure what top dollar is these days, on a 996.....

I like the aero kit cars, but with the missing factory wing I would count that as a minus.

Otherwise, your car looks fantastic, GLWS!

I dig factory aero kits.

I like the Techart wing, it's sharp. Good luck with the sale.
