Default Anyone run into this when trying to negotiate trade-in?

When negotiating trade-in value, the dealer tried to ding me because the 30K service was not showing up on the carfax. Natch I have done it myself, so of course it's not on the history. They claimed - get this - that the 30K service was $2000 so that's why they were offering so little (since they would presumably have to pay to have it done before they could sell the car). I got so pissed off that I told them to stick it and left. This was, BTW, a non-Porsche dealership, and they were looking to wholesale the car to one of their chain Porsche dealers (or more likely, since it's an 02, just wholesale out entirely).

Anyway, I've had a lot of dealers try to pull different tricks on me, but this was a first.

And don't even ask what they were going to allow me on my pristine '02 cab. Criminal, it was.

Hopefully the ghost of Dr. Porsche will forgive me for briefly thinking of straying...

Michael

What a bunch of BS. 2 grand for 30k service is absurd. You did the right thing by leaving!

Such Bulls^** I paid $1200 for a 30K at a Porsche dealership. Show them the receipt for the oil and filters and tell them to shove it!

You could always have the 30K service done and bring the reciept with you. That would end any discussion of how much it's worth (the 30k service that is, not the car).

Too bad that they tried to take you. A 30K maintenance is an under $200 and 2 hour operation.

I know they used a novel trick, but is this really a surprise? Car salesmen will use any trick or lie that they can to get the upper hand.

30,000 mile service is oil, filter, cabin filter, air filter, and what? check on the serpentine belt for damage? Put air in the tires? Water in the battery? $2000 for that? No wonder i do my own maintenance!

It doesn't surprise me in the slightest, and I'm glad you answered them with your feet.

Does the 30K service ever include spark plugs do to the age of the car (not mileage)?

I have 35K on my 03 and along with the RMS and clutch they are recommending spark plugs. The 30K service was done by another dealer last year.

Regardless, when they get my car for service next week the plugs will have been changed. I'm changing them this weekend.

The 03 has a 60K spark plug change interval.

This dealership must change your tires, steering wheel and the gas tank every 30 K.

This post is exactly why I don't trade cars into dealers or buy cars from dealers.

Put your car for sale privately for just a little more than the dealer offered you and it will sell.

Your Avitar looks like you have an Aero Kit car. That should go quick.
