Looking for the most hp gain muffler. Do I need headers, cats etc. What hp gain can I expect with the whole system or just the muffler. I already searched but got confused. Thanks!
You can spend a ton of money for a few extra hp but a good aftermarket exhaust is the best bang for the buck it seems.
Also it seems at least a couple folks have had challenges with sport cats, etc.
Probably best to keep it simple unless you're building a pure track car....
I wouldn't purchase an exhaust system with the thought that you will gain, or for that matter, notice a HP increase. Been there and done that with disappointing results. In fact, I replaced the original exhaust and put in high flow cats and can't notice the difference in HP gain. Keep in mind, my car was frequently tracked. If you are going to replace the exhaust do it based on improving the sound track and you will surely not be disappointed.
For sound, the best is the Porsche Sport Exhaust system. For HP, I don't think there is a magic bullet exhaust-wise, short of doing a full on build of the engine (headers, cats, intake, manifolds, etc...). Most after market system will simply move around where you will feel the torque/hp; sometimes it will feel better at the bottom end while sacrificing some top end and vice versa.

+1 do it for the satisfaction of the sound, like you're driving a beast. A ferrari 308 can sound very nice but 1/4 only 15 sec. however, it is still a blast to drive, just like driving an old classic.
