With the front part of the wheel well liner off, it is IN the passenger fender, up towards the hood, but not that high. It does work it's way into a crevice, but is easily retrieved. Easier if the wheel is off.

early (pre 01 i think) had a manual cable for the luggage compartment.
My year (01) was first year for electronic compartment release.

if Dr. Porsche were alive he would not stand for everything going electronic!!

believe me i looked all over the effin place! It had to have slid up into a crack.
also=my car was in a minor front end accident (2 previous owners ago). im pretty sure the bumper cover was replaced. but there is a chance it wasnt put back and or was damaged.

like i said earlier i will be working on it thursday the 20th am. jacking up and all!

My MY00 has the older manual style, and I'm glad! I can see having an electronic CLOSE feature (so you don't have to get a hand print on the hood to close it), but I can manually pull the lever when I want my hood or trunk opened, thank you Dr. Porsche!

At least you can buy one of thoese cool "911" keys with the trunk release, and actually open the trunk with it.

Do you live somewhere that you think really needs wheel locks? I ditched mine as soon as I bought the car. No one is going to steal Porsche wheels around here, and I want to be able to take the wheel off anytime I want. Replacement bolts from the dealer were like $4 each, a no brainer for me. And I actually now have 2 sets cause I bought 7mm spacers from FVD with longer bolts.

Hey Torontoworker..the hood is steel, or else Porsche invented magnetic aluminum...
