My friend rear ended my car...
Luckily only at like 5 MPH while he was parking, but it put a crease/scratch in the bumper guard next to the license plate on the driver's side.
The dealer wants $142 for this piece, plus painting. What are my other options? I thought I heard that some people remove these little guards - so what is behind them?
I know a guy who does touch up painting, and maybe he can fill it in and respray the one that is on there for less than buying a new one.
Any other ideas? Anyone have a black left side one they want to sell?

Sounds like a cheap fix. Just have the dealer fix it + any other road rash on the front and have your friend take you out to Ruth Crist steak house for dinner.

so I had myself a <5 mph bump too... in fact, after I washed the car it was really tough to even tell where I got bumped. Took it in and then discovered the fender was a bit tweeked... and the wheel was scuffed, after removing some parts, we found some broken plastic on the inside - then re-work the fender, and repaint it.... all in all its over $3 and with the additional "touch up" aka repaint the front bumper and remove the road rash, plus add a hood re-paint I will be in it over $5k
I am not suggesting your have $5k worth of damage, but I am suggesting that "looks like $100 to fix it" may warrent some more looking into by someone who knows these cars......
My .02 and I would bet Rudy would agree (and others)

This body shop should have a Celette Bench and in good shape, should use at least one of 3 paints and paint systems: Standox, Spies Hecker or Glasurit (this one I think Mercedes paint as well as Porsche paint).
Body shop will almost certainly want remove bumper cover and inspect for any damage underneath.
My Boxster hit in rear at 5mph and it took a new rear bumper cover, taillight housing, and some straightening of some sheet metal under bumper cover to put right. (Since car shoved into vehicle ahead of mine front suffered damage too and total bill came to just over $5K.)
Be careful insurance company doesn't try to force shop to use "re-conditioned" bumper cover in repair of car.
When you are close to getting car back from body shop contact me and I'll go over what kind of inspection you need to do to ensure repairs are ok.
Before you take car in to shop take lots of pictures, from all sides to show body panel alignment, surface smoothness, etc. You can't take too many pictures.
Sincerely,
Macster.

I certainly agree. Have car checked out by body shop that specializes in Porsches and is recommended to you by not only nearby Porsche dealer but is used by Mercedes and other high end luxury car dealers in area.

Sorry to hijack but thanks Macster! I have been trying to remember the name of the company Spies Hecker for ages now. I remember when I got rearended, that is the paint company used by the body shop.

+1!!!
Although I do have to admit that I was looking for a reason (no matter how minor) to spice up the bumper covers... but man oh man, do those costs sneak up on you... And your time and patience too if you tell them to "Take your time and do it right..." because they will...
Good luck!

Oh and as for other damage, there is none. He bumped the car literally at probably 1 or 2 MPH. He had stopped and the car rolled forward and hit the little bumperette. The damage is so minor that unless I can get it fixed for cheap, I'm not going to do anything about it.

...then forget about it and get the dinner Your car probably has the body painted bumperettes?
