Default Door opening/window question

I've started to have a problem with my passenger's side window. When I open the door, it moves down a little bit, but not as much as it should. Therefore, when I close the door, it gets caught on the weather strip and doesn't close properly. The window functions normally otherwise.

I've searched here and it seems like this might be the window regulator. Does this sound correct? If so, I saw mention that this was a DIY job with a cheap replacement part.

Can anybody point me in the right direction for the part and a DIY guide?

Thanks,

Have you tried reset/relearn? Maybe that's all it needs.

+1 for reset and the other thing it sounds like is the micro switches could be failing (dirty or on their last leg)

Lower the window and continue to depress teh button for about 10 seconds. Raise the window and continue to depress the botton for 10 seconds. Repeat this process down and up a second time.

See if that resets the window.

Unfortunately, the window reset didn't change anything.

Sounds like your window regulator is about to kaput.

Next step is the crunching sounds.

It took me about 2 hours to do mine following the shop manual. I know some people have made write-ups here.

I had the exact same issue. Tried the reset etc...did not work. The part was a window switch of some sort.
All in all... cost $450 at the dealer(covered by the extended warranty luckily).

Dennis,

These instructions are for replacing the window regulator and they include how to remove the door panel.

No progress at this point. I tried the reset twice, to no avail.

Tim - is there a way that I can determine if my issue is the regulator or if it is the microswitch?

Thanks,

Dennis,

As near as I can recall. if you pull the door handle and hear a whirring noise, then that means that the micro switch has activated the regulator, but he regulator is not working. If you don't hear a whirring noise, then the micro switch is bad.

Maybe someone will pop in here to refute or confirm this.

I'll check it this morning. If the regulator were going bad, would the window still function normally otherwise?

Dennis, that is what mine did before it started crunching. The cable strectches in the window regulator ("bowden system") causing the travel of the window to decrease.

I assume this means replacement of the regulator is needed...
