Fabspeed sucks.
Do the hack on a used set of cans and call it a day.

BTW...What kind of oil are you using?

Well done production hacks......that's funny.
I like to call them "modifications"...hack sounds so "uncivilized"

Its been done with a larger pipe between the two pipes - not the J pipe, the J pipe is just too flow restrictive IMO

I mean, the Fister Mk 2 mod of a 2 1/4" pipe from the muffler plug to the exhaust exit pipe AND the 1" pipe between the inlet and the exit pipes on a 3.6 muffler. BTW, I did do the 2 1/4" pipe (MK 2) on mine, and it is GREAT, but I want more.

Do the MK I mod and report back. Before and after vids with sound would be great!

Thanks for all the replies. Lots of aftermarket and hack stuff for me to research now.

Someone asked which oil I use: Mobil 1 and changed it myself. Pretty easy, BTW. I believe this forum provided the DIY.

Question on the "hack" : Because I have a bad/ loose baffle (or who knows what) inside the muffler, won't that have to be repaired? How hard is it for a muffler shop to diagnose/repair something like that? Or should I get a used OEM driver side unit and have the hack done at that time? Is there a "long version" of the hack for more details? Do you have this done at any muffler shop or is it a detailed operation?

I'll continue looking for good used (cheap!) ss exhausts as well. Anyone selling?

Robin Sun makes or used to make his RSR version of 996 mufflers--cutting them open, altering the interior, and re-welding. If something is loose inside, I'm sure opening them up would facilitate resolution. His website doesn't list 996s anymore, but the google cache does. I wonder if he stopped doing 996s?

Quick Reply: 996 exhaust- stay with OEM or go aftermarket ??
