the factory exhaust manifolds look like they would flow pretty good anyways. spending $2-300 on headers for a street car probably wouldn't even be felt.
The factory headers are completely terrible. As I recall it's just three pipes welded into the side of a slightly larger pipe. It's a joke, but a great way to pull "more" power out of the higher models.

Now, chances are these are poorly made with low quality materials, but hey, it'd be a nice sound for a couple hundred bucks and maybe you'll get the good one out of the batch, never know.

You are thinking of the stock 997 headers I think. The factory 996 headers look damn near identical the 997 X51 headers.

Oh god the 997 ones are just . Anyway, the 996 ones are better but nowhere near as good as what you would expect to see on the bottom side of a high end sports car.

just checkin back in on my thread;

ive been under the car to put modded mufflers on and i must say the stock headers are well headers! and tubular all the way to the collector. however i didnt measure the primary tube diameter or collector diameter. (which is how headers make their power, and flow) so until someone who races chimes in and knows for a fact i will just keep what i got.

My exhaust note did not sound mean until after the flash. I have evo intake, Fabspeed headers and mufflers with stock cats. The original setup was only muffler and intake. Headers went in and sounded deeper but felt mid range torque was lost somewhat. After the flash, the engine is strong through out the RPM range.

It sounds nice but missing the lower bassier tones. Reminds me of my Evo intake and Fabspeed muffler setup.

yeah, the evo intake still muffles too much, i'm looking for a better intake to get more grumble. I had the complete fabspeed exhaust before but it was too deep and actually quieter than this setup.

for $95 the headers weren't bad, the sound without headers was more subdued.

definitely to get it sounding more exotic it needs to be higher pitched.

Are those headers standard equipment on the 996? I ask becasue when I got under my car for the first time to change the oil, I saw similar headers and I remember thinking: Damn... this car already has headers!

I looked to get my exhaust sound as close to a cup car as possible without rattling windows when I drive by.
