All... First thanks for all of the positive feedback. As far as pricing goes, here's what my thoughts are: It think the standard for painted consoles is close to $400, and I'm offering that plus the integrated cup holders. So I'm looking to get $500, painted any color you want, just send me the paint code. If your willing to send me your old console (as long as it's in decent shape (ie. not cracked or warped), I'll knock off $125 from that.
Salayc: It would be no problem to make a console with only one cup holder..
Sjfehr: If you could send me a picture of what your console looks like and could let you know if I would have any issues. As long as the space for the tip gear selector doesn't take up any more room then the manual, I'm pretty sure I can add the two cup holds and provide the 4 window switch locations that you would need (just the space between the two cup holders would be reduced).
Thanks
Keith

Excellent. Did you use fiberglass? Definitely interested. I have a cabriolet, so the rear window switches would be in the same location as the 2nd cup holder. I'd want two holders though, so what thoughts do you have on relocating the second set of switches?

My car is also a cab... Since I rarely use the rear window switches, and my car didn't have heated seats, I elected to just move the switches for the rear windows to the location where the heated seat switches would be. I do think that if I move the cupholders closer together, I can add the second set of switches behind the rear cupholder. I had thoughts of adding a pocket between the two cup holders for a cell phone or I-pod docking station.
As far as relocating the rear switches, the factory wires are not long enough, so I made an adapter harness.

That is beautiful! Would you be painting the one I send you, or would the one I send you be a core that you would rollover to another purchaser? Not that it matters - how long would it take from order to receipt?

BTW, just a friendly comment, I hope you have already taken steps to file a patent application because this offer for sale starts the clock ticking for you to do so. Good luck. And count me in. I like your idea of the phone compartment or the like.

I currently have 10 center consoles that I plan to convert to cup holder versions (when I deceided to paint the interior components of my 996, I started looking for some extra parts in case I screwed something up. I lucked out a came across a bunch on interior pieces on ebay (this is part of what led me to mess around with the idea of trying to do this (see blog link below on renntech for the interior mods that I did))).
As I receive core console, I'll continue to make more. If the interest is strong enough, I'll have to look into having a mold made.

My patent application was filed this past Friday, so I should be covered as for as protection of intellectual property goes (I had some of the legal guys at work help).
As far as timing goes: I take a hobby automotive painting class (which gives me access to 3 paint booths, with full baking capabilities, etc). Class starts up again the first week in September, so between now and then I'll be making up as many as I can.
I can take orders for the first 10 consoles now. If your interested in placing an order, let me know how many window switch locations you need and cupholders you'd like (one or two). Please pm me with these details. I'll get the console fabbed up (send you pics in primer, etc), then when it's time for paint, I'll be looking for a firm commitment. My goal would be to be able to start shipping these first 10 consoles by mid September.

Very cool! My only concern would be shifting with a large coffee right in the way. My arm tends to be right over the console when I reach for 3rd or 5th.

Certainly, if your going to be doing agressive driving, you would not want any drinks in the cupholders (atleast not if the top was open), but for normal cruising and long trips I've found this design to work very well.
