Default 996 Cab. How usefull are the back seats?

I think I know the answer to this but my brother in law (not a "Porsche guy" and has never owned a porsche) mentioned he was looking for a 996 Cabriolet and I asked him why. He said because he wants a 4 seater convertable so he could take his wife and 11 year old, rapidly growing 5' tall daughter out. I was trying to explain why this may not be the best car. Anyone have experience with this?

I put a 10 year old and 11 year old in the back of my Coupe regularly with no issues (other than my fixed back seats dont "flop" forward to allow easy access)

the car is fine for a child (or two) in the back (dont know about a Cab, but was looking at that option when I started my search - might be a little less room)

The 5' 11yr-old daughter will very soon outgrow the seats.
But if he's using the back seats as an excuse to close the wife, it works most of the time....

Unless the parents are short the daughter will suffer. You can't even stretch out in the back seat because of the middle hump.

The back seats are fine for someone 5' and under. But it all depends on how tall the person in the front seat is. If you scoot the front seats back too far they'll take away nearly all of the legroom.

Also keep in mind the cab has completely upright seat backs. So they're not the most comfortable for a larger person because it may feel as if you're leaning forward. And finally there's the issue of headroom with the top up.

I've fit people up to 6' tall back there but we laughed the whole time he was trying to get out of the car.

Hello,

It all depends on what the plan is. When I was in the market for a convertible sports car, I needed one that could seat 4. I have three kids (girls 15 and 11, son 8) and I am frequently shuttling them around. The 996 rear seats are certainly big enough for a 30 minute trip to dinner, the beach, soccer practice, gymnastics, etc. No, I would not recommend that someone sit back there for an hour long trip. However, when I have a 30 minute trip, and I offer the Porsche or the Honda van, my kids usually pick the 996.

The rear seat is the reason I bought the 911 over the Boxster.

There simply is not much room in the back of a 996 cab....I went with a MB 550 (or 350) CLK to get rear seat room...it was the biggest rear seat of any cab I looked at (Bimmer, Porsche, Benz).

Hey Barry, didn't I buy a 944 from a buddy of yours about 15 years ago?? am I not remembering? John Potter?
Sorry for the thread jack...

Backseats in my 996 don't even fit my German Short-haired pointers.... but they do fit my 2 and a half year old daughter well.

Seriously the M3 cab has very little room..I'd say about the same as the P-car FWIW (see my previous post).
