Default Water in my Cab - What to do?!?

! So I picked up my car yesterday from a trim shop (the 2nd time) that replaced my OEM top and rear plastic window. When I picked it up the first time, the rear window leaked water through the seams, so I took it back to them to resolve the issue. They ended up putting a second stitch around the perimeter of the window and stated that they tested the window to make sure it was not leaking. Fine. Got it home and then today I decided to clean it out. I noticed the carpet was damp when I started vacuuming the interior. Damn. When I lifted the rear carpet down to the floor board, there was a puddle of water. About an inch deep. The front driver side is soaked too, not as much but there is water down there.

Any suggestions on what I should do? I am concerned about any electrical issues and if the water might have gotten other places where it could cause problems.

I am thinking about taking the car to the dealer tomorrow to witness the problem and ask for an estimate to clean it out. Legal action against the trim shop too to cover the expense in case they give me a hassle?

Assuming the water was there before you brought it home....

You're probably fine on the electrical issue. The pooled water would suggest that it's not draining elsewhere, and the drive home didn't trigger an electrical problem, right? Right now I'd be worrying more about the carpet. You've got to get that stuff out and dry it out to prevent mildew. Get the standing water out with a wet vac, then towel out the rest.

If the trim shop is at fault, don't worry about them giving you a hassle.... you should be the one hassling them. Collect all of the water that was vacuumed and towel out, put it in a bucket, and take it to the shop. Ask them to refund your money and pay for the cleanup. Then ask them which car they would prefer you to pour the bucket of water into while you wait. After all, it IS their water.

thats a lot of water....

take it back to the shop who did the work, and be nice, see if they are nice.... maybe they just nade a mistake and are willing to stand behind their work.... if not, then think more agressively

just a thought

sounds to me like you need to check the drains for the top. Take out the rear speakers (2 t20 screws)
then remove the black flimsy plastic piece you see. Check the drain. (make sure you put the flimsy piece back after your done.
Get that water out asap as it will cook your alarm ecu and your gonna be stranded

so if that happens would it be covered by insurance?

the one guy snags a new motor because his car was flooded by heavy rains - if this guys ECU ect... get damaged by rain is it the same thing?

1. Check the drains in the trunk compartment. There are 2 plastic panels on either side of the battery cover. Remove battery cover and the two panels. Look for the drains in the areas under the 2 panels (3 or 4 drains on each side). The drains have a rubber insert that is easily removeable. The inserts are cone shaped so leaves and debris can easily clog them. Remove and clean. If you have an air compressor, blast out the drains while inserts are removed.
2. Retract the top 1/2 way so that rear of top is raised as far as it can be. Look for two drain slots (rectangular), one on each side of channel that top fits into. Clean if necessary and give them an air hose blast. These drain into chassis and out of car.
Advice courtesy of Courtney Walsh of EU Autowerks in Toronto who maintains my car. He diagnosed over the phone with me, gave me the DIY instructions and this solved my flood under the rear passenger side carpet in my 01 Cab. He did say that the water was likely from the trunk drains being blocked (they were) as it can magically find a way to the rear floor.
Courtney, if you are reading this, thanks again!

Boo. The only thing I had a clue about and its already been answered!

Same thing happened to me in my BMW Z8 because the drainage "bladders" were blocked. Water filled behind the passenger seat.

Luckily that's where the fuse box is! Cost me about $5k!

Running the air conditioner will help dry out the carpet also!

thanks everyone for posting. I am in the middle of addressing all the issues. I'll likely take the carpet out of the car, clean it up, let it dry and then reassemble.
