Default I don't mind rock chips and road rash.....

But door dings from people in your own garage. M....R F....R.

Seriously? Did you think that opening the door, like you're blowing the hatch on Apollo 7, was needed?

Time to go to bed.

I had a nice little pick up for 15 years without a scratch on it. It was really very very clean and at 175000 miles ran perfect. I bought it with 12k miles so my a@@ put a ton of miles on that little truck.. I really used it and the insdie of the bed was all scratched, but nothing on the outside......

till my wife drove her car into the side while it was in the driveway and put a 4 foot long, 6 inch wide gouge down the drivers side ..... door, cab and bed......

I am guessing this was someone you know, not a stranger........ all said and done, it just sucks!! and I know that feeling.....really sorry to hear though.

I viewed it as a test to see how much I love my wife.... turns out, I love her more than even I would have guessed. My reaction was not at all what she would have expected, and I think she loves me more for that too....
Best wishes

I had that happen to me early in my career, when working for a large company. The garage was only for my co-workers and one of them put a gash in the side of my car. I never did find out who it was. Nice.

I have also always been frustrated by the fact that I try to park carefully. I park far away from other cars. I look for wide spaces. I am very careful around other cars. Even so, I still get the occasional door ding.

My wife parks in the closest available space. Even if it means squeezing her vehicle into a space that it really shouldn't go in. She has never gotten a door ding. The sides of her car are perfect.

It's just not right...

I am sure a lot of you park in lots so far from the door that you need binoculars with 100 empty spots around you. When you come out, some bozo has parked right next to your car and you're there scratching your head like "what the hell!"

Paintless dent removal works great if they didn't chip the paint. I had a thickly padded car cover when I lived in Denver and had to park in a parking structure that caught most of the issues

I once had a small pickup parked on the street 1/2 way across the driveway. I was standing in the driveway saying good bye to my girlfriend as she backed out and the last thing I said was " Don't back into my truck" I started walkng into the house and I heard "Crunch" Guess what.... It happens to the best of us.

It always kills me when I see people get out of their cars and just SWING there doors fully open, without regard - even if it is not my car next to them. I have too much respect for other's property than that.

I always wondered why someone never invented a foam bumper encased in soft cloth and maybe magnets that you could just attach to the side of the car, from fender to fender. Something that blends in and not so noticeable, maybe looking like a extra thick door moulding, but easily removable. I would use it in my own garage, given my wife's car and kid's bicycles...

they make them. I saw some magnet blankets stuck to a p-car door before with some words like "door dent protectors"

only trouoble is.... what if they just come over and steal your protectors and sell them to me on ebay

?????

we need the Batman car lock system with the plates that seal it from the outside - though those might be a little heavy

Ah I've simmered down. It was a niece that did it. The whole day kinda blew and it was the perfect ending to that type of day. Except the crappyness didn't end there....the take out place forgot half our order. I found that out after we got into the house...... after the door ding....

Now the question is:

My sister wants to pay to get the dent removed.

I don't want her to do that since we're family.

But I can't stand seeing when I walk by it......

Anyone have an opinion?

if it can be fixed by paintless dent removal, then have her do it. it's pretty inexpensive, under $100 in most cases, and that way your sister won't carry any guilt.

of course if you want to have something "over" your sister...
