Default Leather Care

I have a 40th Anniversary with Full Leather interior. Most of the leather looks very good except for the doors on the top near the window and the side bolsters on the driver seat.

The marks on the doors are scuffs/scars, mostly near the window. The side bolsters are showing wear from use (cracking etc.).

Other than leather conditioner to help slow down the wearing process, is there anything else that I can do? Is it OK to use the leather conditioner on every piece in the interior that is leather?

I used a spray from Mothers or Maguiers. Is there something else that I should use? Anyone have any tips? How often?

Thanks,

I just received my Leatherique restoration kit yesterday and started restoring the upholstery on my 1959 Maserati project car. The stuff is incredible! I will use it on all my cars. If it can make cardboard hard, 50 year old leather, soft and supple again...it can work miracles on your modern Porsche. Check out their before and after pictures...http://www.leatherique.com/

I used Leatherique on rock hard Supra leather seats.

This stuff does work wonders, though unlike other leather care products, this isn't apply and wipe. The stuff is sticky and syrupy, and you have to leave it on for hours or a day (I left it on days), so you need to cover the seats with garbage bags to dry.

Best results is do it on a hot day and let it bake all day and overnight, than use the cleaner.

They also have great products to fix the cracks, dye..etc

Another plus for Leatherique.. I just used it recently on my GTI and the seats are better than when it came from the factory.. Its a lot of work but definitely worth it in the long run

Looks like a nice product. What about all of the leather trim pieces? Is the spray and wipe stuff OK?

My leather is still in pretty good shape - is it worth using Leatherique or should I just continue to use my Griots Leather Conditioner?

Zaino's Z10 is very good.

Best leather care products I have found are at www.colorplus.com.

leatherique is famously good for restoring really beat up leather, but the process is a bit much for maintenance, especially if you drive the car every day.

I had a leather repair guy strongly recommend trying leather magic as an easy, rub in/wipe off maintenance product, and I have to say the conditioner and cleaner are both very nice, keeps everything super soft. Cheaper as well, but I doubt it can do what leatherique can on sever cases.

+1 on colorplus

First recognize that the leather in different locations has been treated differently. For dash and doors, for example, the leather is purposely "dried" before installation. It is not meant to be treated with typical leather conditioner. For those components I use Aero 303 for sunscreen purposes. For leather that comes in contact with the skin, your regular leather conditioners work fine (I also use Zaino for these surfaces).

In my previous cars I've always kept a tube of Armour All Leather Wipes. When I'm waiting around for whatever reason, I get them out and wipe down the seats, dash etc.

Is this acceptable?

I prefer Lexol Conditioner.

Not a fan of Amorall for Pcar leather.

Thanks, I won't use it then. I've used Lexol before and it was very good.

If you want prof. detailer's advice go to autopia.org...the rest of us are just hacks (I would never ever use armorall and lexol is about the stinkiest product I ever used...LOL)
