My 996 Experiment

My 996 Experiment
Hello all,
I thought for my first post I’d introduce the car I recently purchased, rather than me, (I'm boring).
’99 996 Cab Trip S. 38k Miles, $23K Silver over black. Full Leather etc.
History
One previous owner. Front damage in 2008, repaired, $6,800. I have the report, looks like he, (could be a ‘she’ seeing as it is a Trip Cab!), rear-ended someone, good thing the engine is in the back! Other than that I have no real history, other than Carfax, no warranty etc. It’s a gamble but one I’m willing to take, after all, it was only $23k with low miles and I wanted a car to dawdle about in for the summer.
Current
I’ve had it a month and done a little over 800 Miles. I find it surprisingly sluggish unless you really go for it in Trip. The transmission makes it sound like a hairdryer with the roof up, perhaps that is a problem with the tranny and I don’t realize!
Oil pressure worried me at the start because I’ve never had a car with one of those gauges. Cold it’s at 4.9, (I’m a get in and drive slowly kind of guy to warm it up), and when warm is around 4 on the highway, 3.5 at lower RPM and idles around 2.
Then main roof motor sounds like it’s about die, so thanks guys for the threads regarding making it manual. I’m a little wary as I’m not technically gifted, but it sounds easy enough.
Well, that’s it. Hello to all and I hope you don’t mind me coming on here with my ramblings. I know many of you are die-hard Porsche guys and I hope my little ‘experiment’ doesn’t offend.
BTW, loving it so far!
Current other cars are:-
’96 M3
’71 Jaguar XK-E V12 (or E-Type as we call them back in Blighty)
’01 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Previous Car of Note.
BMW Z8 – loads of power, great looking, handled like a boat, things fell off it or broke all the time.

1st off welcome - post pics when you get a minute...
The oil pressure numbers sound good to me... I tend to have more range in mine, but it is normal -
this forum will help overcome the "technically gifted" aspects of ownership... stick around and join in the conversations when you feel like it -
Enjoy!

Redridge,
I watched the episode of Top Gear with the R8 and the 911 the other day, (again). Very funny.
BTW, I'm not sure if you have seen the episode, (shoot me if you are an avid watcher), but that bit was 'staged'. Hammond was catching up to Clarkson and messing about.

Welcome aboard JB... Hey - easy with that "she" and "trip cab" thing!!!
Yes, you're going to love it... it was warm here at 4:30 in the morning (about 68 degrees) so I made my 25 mile commute with the top down... driving in the dark with the top down really is a pleasant experience...
Better be quick about the pics... you've been warned...
