doesn't matter - Porsche is 'toast'.

After serving as Director’s Assistant with respect to production and materials management, concept and the organization of the PVP Porsche improvement process, he became Chairman’s Aisstant, developing and implementing the so called P.O.L.E. program, short for process optimization through supplier integration. In 1994 he was promoted to Managing Director of the freshly founded Porsche Consulting GmbH and in 1998 became Member of the Board of Management in charge of Production and Logistics of Porsche AG. His work is centered around increasing efficience in production. Macht was in charge of the building and start of operation for the Leipzig factory as well as the wramp up of the model lines Cayenne and Panamera

1) He's an engineer.
2) He ran the engine development program in the 90's (when the M96 was designed).
3) He was in charge of process efficiency and optimization when the M96 was built.

Macht is more responsible for the M96 than Wiedeking every will be. Wiedeking was an accountant. Do you *really* still think the M96 had anything to do with the restructuring?

c'mon.

At least this is vindication for my 996 -long time considered not a real Porsche by the air-cooled purists- now at least I can say it is NOT a VW...

Wiedeking and Piech have had a power struggle for years. That probably influenced Wiedeking's decision to rack up 9 billion Euros trying to take over VW. Funny though, whenver Piech has a power struggle with someone, he always comes out on top.

When we covered the 100th anniversary of Audi last week, they all looked to be in happy spirits:

And given the closeness of the two companies and the technical sharing, this just makes sense and will be beneficial to Porsche in the long run. The current automotive market doesn't allow for successful small auto manufacturers. Considering you already have Bentley, Bugatti, and Lamborghini owned by VW, it's not a bad thing by any means to add Porsche to the list.

And maybe finally put an end to the ridiculously expensive potlatching (at the huge expense of both companies) that has gone on between the two families for decades.

Poor old Weideking I think really got embroiled in the family fight over Porsche that started in the 60s.

As someone pointed out, competition with Piech is at your peril.

Recalling when Piech (also a Porsche) was in control of Porsche racing, he built the 906,907,908,917 etc. in a very short time to beat his racing competition at every level.

When Porsche handed the 917 program to John Wyer to manage, Piech entered his own cars under his mom's Porsche Salzburg company name.

When Piech was finally shown the door at Porsche (along with his Porsche named cousins) he emerged as CEO of Audi. The guy defines a competitive person.

Ferdinand Porsche, Ferry Porsche and Louise Piech (nee Porsche) must be rolling in their graves on Zell am See over what their issue have wrought.

So true about the parts and the history. And it could yield some new cars, like a porsche version of the upcoming VW sports car. Something along the lines of a 914 replacement.

I recall reading, back when Porsche was starting to take an aggressive position on VW stock, that part of the justification was ensuring parts supply from VW into the future. Why that would be a concern, I do not know. But one way or another things got a bit out of control.

As for parts. . . this is seriously OT, but can anyone explain to my why the lights that illuminate the license plate on my 996 have little BMW logos . . . ? I find that particularly odd and amusing. The presence of VW/Audi parts seems natural.
