What's the deal with trying to buy Volkswagen when you *don't* have the money to do so?
I know it'smore complicated than that, but now MAYBE they can concentrate on building sports cars rather than a manufacturing empire. It will be interesting to see where the Qataris take the company.

There will be more to come on the future of 'Porsche' - my 'opinion' is that the 996 debacle helped to push Porsche to the brink:
...almost as if Porsche is *punishing* the 996 devotee community with this 3.4L replacement engine pricing debacle. Obviously they monitor ALL Rennlist activity - but this is absurd. I'm still convinced that Porsche realized they made a serious design and engineering foh pah on the 996 powerplant and to help the owner community out with it would only serve to ingrain the fact that they 'acknowledge' the issue. That's a human-natural reaction. Especially considering that Porsche is going to be taken over by VW. And acknowledgement of a crap **s engine design at this point lessens their engineering overmatch with VW and weakens their already shaky bargaining position. Sad, sad indeed. But gents - thems the facts according to Mar - you heard it here first.

How long till Porsche interiors start looking like Audi's, Like in the Lambo's ?
Don't get me wrong, Audi does the best interiors but I prefer Porsche to be Porsche,

Just be thankful we didn't make the CLUNKER List like these folks...
From Edmunds.com, the Porsche portion of the Cash for Clunkers qualifiers:

We've been watching this on the 997 list a lot:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/24/bu....html?_r=2&hpw
http://www.porsche-se.com/pho/en/new...d=2009-07-23-3
Also, a very good article with the family history for background (Der Spiegel): http://www.spiegel.de/international/...637243,00.html
Be happy that you own a Porsche when it was a Porsche.

The Volkswagen existed over a decade before the first Porsche and lets don't forget who designed the Beetle..VW parts have coupled to Porsche vehicles in tons of applications in the past, and usually the VW part can be bought for 1/3 the price and is no different.

Maybe our 996s' depreciation curve will finally start to level off... now that they are sure to become "collectible."
hahahahahahahahahah! ROTF(of my garage)LOL with one eye on my RMS as always.

Porsche sold more 996 and 986 than all other Porsche models combined and at least partially because they are really good cars that people liked.
They sold more of them, and they were realy profitable for Porsche because they were buily efficiently unlike the cars that came before. The 996 and 986 brought Porsche to a whole new level and that's the one thing Wiedeking can be proud of. He saved the company.
He's leaving because he gambled big and lost. It's business, and german business to boot.
Don't think for a second that the Porsche family is worried about the M96 motors. They're no more worried about the M96 than they were about pulled head studs, exploding air boxes, rubber centred clutches, you name it.

Hhmm - check out Macht's bio:
Michael Macht, born in Stuttgart in 1960, studied Mechanical Engineering at Stuttgart University and was scientist at Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO, before he started his career at Porsche AG in 1990, becoming specialist for engine planning. After serving as Director’s Assistant with respect to production and materials management, concept and the organization of the PVP Porsche improvement process, he became Chairman’s Aisstant, developing and implementing the so called P.O.L.E. program, short for process optimization through supplier integration. In 1994 he was promoted to Managing Director of the freshly founded Porsche Consulting GmbH and in 1998 became Member of the Board of Management in charge of Production and Logistics of Porsche AG. His work is centered around increasing efficience in production. Macht was in charge of the building and start of operation for the Leipzig factory as well as the wramp up of the model lines Cayenne and Panamera
1) He's an engineer.
2) He ran the engine development program in the 90's (when the M96 was designed).
3) He was in charge of process efficiency and optimization when the M96 was built.
Macht is more responsible for the M96 than Wiedeking every will be. Wiedeking was an accountant. Do you *really* still think the M96 had anything to do with the restructuring?
c'mon.
