Question on Air Intake

...who cares how well the maf can read, there's no 'gillette' letters on the cap. What am I missing here...?!
I’ll bet you guys that the reservoir, where the orange cap is installed, is used to dampen pulsations of the air flow to help the MAF read more accurately. It may make a difference in sound but that is not its purpose. Just my opinion.
Also, take a look at "B" in the attachment.

I saw this thread and looked around--Niagara still sends out free samples, the new model number is around on this forum (sorry I forgot it since last week) and it fits snugly enough that I couldn't jam it through the secondary intake plenum or into the air filter box, so there's no risk of it dumping the bone and hopping in the engine unless the thing melts.
For the results: Exhaust note is more pronounced, but more than that there's a distinct "I'm positively sucking as much air as I ever have" sound coming from the engine. Definitely cool. Couple downsides I noticed immediately though were that it wobbled some at startup and idle until it settled in (first start after I put it in, guess that's not too crazy) and it ran very rich. I had the windows down and backing into the road I could smell gas.
So I'm not happy running the engine that rich, so out it goes unless some of you who have had it can say that yes, it runs rich, but the ECU figures it out and reins it in after a few days.

I've had that orange cap on for coming to 3 years now. The last time I looked at it was when I cleaned the throttle body, it was fine, no warping or anything. And I haven't noticed any difference in startup idling, nor have I noticed any smell of gas.
When I first installed it, I could hear the sound difference. But after the MKII PSE-hack exhaust mod, the orange cap mod has become kinda redundant.
