Default Do you have to use a Porsche specific male seat belt buckle to turn off the light?

I want to get a spare male seat belt buckle to fit into the female receiver to turn off the seatbelt warning light when I am using the 6 pt harnesses.

In the past I just used the rear passenger seat belt buckle. I asked my body shop (they are painting my car) and they said that seat belt buckles are specially coded so I can't just get any buckle, it has to be a Porsche buckle, which costs $70. He said some manufacturers like Audi charge more, up to $300. Is that true? Are buckles specially coded?

Has anyone used a spare buckle and where did they get it? Sunset says that Porsche will not sell you just a belt buckle unless you are a collision repair shop.

NO. Any buckle will do. Late model Audi and VW buckles fit. Scrap yard will do. I had mine made at a machine shop, cost 15 bucks.

I saw someone asking in the 944 forum if anyone had a spare kicking around. Seems like a good solution.

(In fact I might have some spares somewhere...)

I cut one out of a VW at a junkyard. Works perfectly, took about 2 minutes and cost $2.
