I leave mine in my center console because I have a cab and fear the gash and dash bait that an EZPass could present. But it does beg the question: has anyone left the EZPass in the center console and gone through a toll? Does it work from there?

I have an exterior ez pass (black transponder mounts to license plate)

works great, and im not sure if an ez pass is worth anything anyway.

I have done that by accident and it did not register. I was lucky not to get a ticket.

Dont they just take of picture of the plate and bill you? That is what they do in CA unless you do not have your vehicle registered with the toll authority..

That's what they claim, but I'm guessing that their system is not as effective as they would like people to believe.

Mine was an honest mistake and I never heard anything back, or had anything added to my monthly bill.

they make them to attach to the license plate on the screws that hold the plate on. the glass on certain cars like a surburban is too thick to register as you go through tolls. You just have to ask them for that model when you order one. I've got them on all our cars...

Is it OK to paint the white EZ Pass unit? I thought of that, but worried it would interfear with the machines reading it? If not, I have some nice flat-black paint waiting to hide the ugly POS !

I figure that as long as it's not metallic paint you should be okay.

You know I went to the exterior first because ez pass started sending me violations from the NJ-PA crossings near philly last year, not sure why but the exterior fixed it for me, and since my car is black it doesn't stand out much.
