I can't believe they have emissions in Shanghai! I used to spend a bit of time in the Shenzhen area a few years ago, and saw nothing that would indicate emission laws were in effect, although they were certainly needed.

Funny you said this. You have to know the law enforcement people in the night club business. Sometimes, important clients get into trouble and you need to make things go away. His license plates are in the database to "automatically disappear" when tickets are written up. It is not parking illegally and getting tickets he worries about, it getting towed and losing your ride; not to mention the car getting ruined.

The roads are very nice in China since they are all practically newly paved. Once you get outside of the city in certain parts, like between Shanghai and Suzhou, the roads are basically empty.
