Default Will disconnecting battery cause new issues?

I've got the weak horn bushing issues going on and was wondering if disconnecting the bat before I get into the airbag area will I cause some other random issue, i.e. security codes for radio, sunroof memory, rear main seal squirting, IMS jumping out, pistons slamming into valves, coolant bottles exploding, oil and coolant swapping paths, pass window falling into door....etc. I'm kinda joking about all that but then again the F150 in the driveway (that never breaks) would never let me forget it if it happened. Is the disconnect neccessary? Seems like it could get violent if the airbag were to get shorted.

Thanks
Shane

I didn't have any issues on my MY99 when disconnecting the battery when I swapped steering wheels. The only thing I had to do was re-enter my radio code and re learn the windows (Cycle them up and down fully) so they would do the auto lower when I opened and closed the door.

+1 on that.... but with that 9v battery thing I have been told you wont have to do those and if you dont have the radio code it can be a bit of a problem...

How about just plugging in the battery maintainer?

Yeah, I've had to disconnect the battery on mine several times, and I've never had a big problem. Most that I noticed was that , like LJPete said, the auto windows took a cycle or two to relearn the one touch feature but everything else was good to go

Disconnected my battery before removing the airbag off my door panel, no issues at all.

In fact, I think I might have gained 5hp in the process.....

The 2003 and later 996 cars have the radio code programmed into the DME, so no redio code entry is needed.

If you had removed and replaced the airbag on the other door panel too, you would have gained 10 HP!

One other thing to consider is that the emission codes will revert to a "not ready" state if the battery is disconnected. I made the mistake of replacing my battery just before taking the car in for inspection, and it failed the ready test. I had to drive it for a few days and then take it back to get a passing grade.

in order the airbags do not have sufficient residual power. This is to avoid the potential for triggering air bag deployment while working around or with airbags.

Radio codes if needed can be obtained before disconnecting battery.

Ecu will relearn fast enough once battery reconnected and car driven.

Seat memories and window positions and what not will have to be reset.

Much less trouble though than dealing with after effects of having an air bag go off in your face while you are removing steering wheel. If passenger side air bag triggers it can destroy dash. This is approx. a $2000 part and labor to replace is not cheap.

Sincerely,

Macster.
