Default Oil change for the 996

Hey folks....planning an oil change today. I have a daily driver with a few DE's thrown in during the summer. Actually one this coming weekend @ Road America. I prefer Mobil 1. What grade would be best? 0-40, 5-30, 10-40?

Oh man. 0-40 is orginal specification. 10-40 is not an option. some guys use 5-30. Save your self some long debate and do a search on this topic. You will have days worth of reading. Then close this thread and dont look back. Once you do your search you will understand.

Thanks for the heads up......I did start the search and found some info on this site.

https://rennlist.com/main996faq/faq....l%20&%20Fluids

"Several people have suggested mixing two different viscosities of Mobil 1. I believe Van Larson might have been the first to post on this and he was also the first to explain a 996 oil change in any detail. (Thanks, Van.) Pour in 4 qts of 5-30, followed by 4 qts 15-50. If you need to top off, add very slowly, more 15-50 but don't over-fill or you might have to drain the whole lot!"

Sounds like a milk shake to me.......interesting.

5-30 it is.

I've run 0-40 Mobil 1 or 5-50 Mobil 1. Now my tech uses 5-40 Lubri Moly Full Synthetic (made in Germany...very hard to find in NA, but he swears by it for all his race prep Porsches). ALL are approved Porsche oils (along with dozens more) so have your pick and you'll be fine.

0W40 based on the last tech update from Porsche

of course, others on this forum have such extensive knowledge of the lubrication technology, that they claim to know better.......

if your gonna track it I know trackers and mechanics who do rebuilds who swear by Mobil 1 5W50 and Motul 5W40... I wouldn't take 0W40 to the track... not in my precious car.

Thanks for all the input. I put the Hawk HP's on the brakes yesterday. Bleeding the brakes tomorrow...All set....I hope!

Time to get jazzed about Road America (Elkhart Lake, WI).

www.bobistheoilguy.com seems to be a good guide with published data to back up claims.
Does seem like much ado about nothing though.
