Balt./Wash. Durametric Co-op
I've been considering buying the Durametric Enthusiast package for some time now but my recent airbag light has given me yet another nudge. The problem is that I am almost certainly buying another 911 in the next few years(anywhere from next week to 3 years anyway!). As the Enthusiast package is only good for 3 cars I would be restricted from plugging in to every car I look at during my next search. I would love to get the professional model which is good for an unlimited number of vehicles but the cost is ~$800 which seems a bit excessive for my purposes. It occurred to me that a local co-op would solve my problem and I thought I would test the waters here. Any interest? PM me. I'm in Howard County.

I learned from ait109 on the 996TT forum that Durametric will reset the Enthusiast cable for you one time. In other words, I could use it for as long as I own the '03 then interrogate as many DME as I want during a new purchase search and then when I purchase a new car, send the cable back to them and they will clear it for me giving me three new VIN. I confirmed this with an e-mail last night to Durametric and ordered mine straight away. I love new toys!

You are only allowed to clear codes for the first 3 VIN entered. You can use the read function for as many as you like. This was news to me as well. This was confirmed by Durametric.

Then, after your 3 are up, you can send the cable back to be reset so you'd get another 3 vehicles to "service."
Pretty cool.... hard to go through 6 vehicles for most of us.

Thanks - so you can "service" vehicle 1, buy another, and another. You can read as many as you'd like.

Well, I guess you could do that but, if I'm looking for a second car, I'm probably going to plug into more than one car before I buy one so I can't see getting 6 cars out of the tool. I think it's important to note that even if you don't clear a code it counts toward your 3 but you can READ more than 3.
Then - you can send the cable back to them so they'll reset the count on the cable, once.
This makes MUCH more sense now - glad you clarified.
