Cabriolet's roll-over protection system
#16
a friend of mine rolled his one night after hydroplaning. this was back in 2001. he had a 2000 midnight blue 996 cab. first one of that color in michigan.
anyway, the car rolled twice (yes, he was going very fast). he had his seatbelt on and the roll over system deployed.
the car stopped rolling and ended up on it's passenger side. anyway, he walked away from the accident with just a couple of bruises. i'm not sure he would have had the same experience with another cab. hope that helps.

Do the pop up roll bars need maintenance?
Always worried about the same thing...
You said that you just used a screwdriver and put them back in place, but what really activates them? Since tires do not last long, i always get paranoid about 'what if'. I have actually have never seen the bars out , but knew they were there. I am mainly curious if it is like airbags which require a special 'setter' to make sure they are going to pop up when you need them. Thank you

I spun off the track and tried to bail hay with my 996. The hay won. Though I never felt like the tires left earth the bars deployed firmly against the rear window. Screwdriver and a shove got them back in place and with the top up in the sun the dimples in my rear window went away as well. Pushed out the dents in the door and had the paintless dent removal guy clean up the rest. Only evidence I have now is scratched left from the hay.
