VIDEO: Hwy 89 Ascent to Yarnell AZ
Took the 996 out for a road trip, via some of the best twisty roads around CA and AZ, and took the HD video camera rig with me to record some of the more curvy grades
My time-lapse video was taken of the ascent into Yarnell, on Hwy 89 in AZ.

The road rises from the desert floor, through a superb series of curves, gaining 1200 ft in altitude over 5 miles. It's mostly dual lane, with a wide hard-shoulder, and plenty of opportunity for apexing corners..
As you can see in the video, the local cops like to stake-out the climb, I encountered 3 vehicles on my ascent, and the Passport X50 was busy giving me a heads-up on their speed-traps.
QUICKTIME YARNELL VIDEO
Camera was the FLIP MinoHD - http://www.theflip.com/store/MinoHD.aspx
Camera mount was the Delkin Fat Gecko - http://www.delkin.com/products/acces...fat-gecko.html
If you have access to this part of AZ, it's well worth the drive to get there
Chris.

Looks like fun and great angle with the camera and I have never been there and I am from here. How long to get there from phoenix. When I googled map it 89 goes to prescott with what looks like even more curves north of yarnell around Ponderosa Park. To bad the cops took most of the fun out of it, AZ is getting redicoulous. If you want a small round about try take the backroute into sahauro lake NPower Rd and can have lunch at the lake.

What are the inside mounting options? Might be interested in this for a DE event.
Thanks again....

Then went from Prescott to Jerome, which is a fantastic route up over the Mingus Mountains, climbing to over 7000 ft on a really twisty road
I'll upload that section as well
From Phoenix, you could go to Yarnell via Hwy 60 and 89 (85 Miles), then head up to Prescott, then Jerome - about 156 miles to Jerome. (3hrs 40 min)
Wickenburg is speed-trap city, so BEWARE!
Some of the best driving roads around, so worth a day trip.
I also did the Pines to Palms Highway (CA 74) down to Palm Desert, which is just a killer descent, down some of the best switchbacks in CA.

Will edit and upload that as well.

I grew up in Prescott and started driving those roads when i was 16 (in a spitfire). If your looking for a good road with fewer cops drive to bagdad. There are some long straights if you want to open it up and some really good curves.

Thanks for sharing - ditto on nice perspective - would love to hear the engine as part of the soundtrack but I guess wind noise makes it tough? You mentioned time-lapse, what fps? Seems like a great setup...

Original video is HD (720) at 30 fps - I then used iMovie to do the time-lapse, soundtrack and titles.
You can mount the fat-gecko inside ok on any window or smooth surface, not sure that the MinoHD would be wide angle enough for interior use though, will have to experiment and see how it looks....
I'm thinking of mounting 2 or 3 MinoHD cameras on a car at the same time, with different viewpoints, and editing together afterwards - would make for a more engaging presentation, but I need to justify the $$$ first!
With the multi camera approach, you could take the audio from an interior mounted camera, and use that as the soundtrack - getting you the engine noise etc.

They've sorted the problem with the roadside IEDs then?
