Default Who has a nice double DIN HU?

the outdated CDR-220 has to go. I have a plug and play Sirius receiver mounted to the side of the cubby that has to go as well. I can't seem to find any stereo's that have the matching orange lighting. Jus tons of blingy crap looking options. I don't really need a DVD player or Nav. Just a SiriusXM and a front aux jack for the Ipod.

and please post pics if you have any!

I have this Pioneer AVIC, the stinking lights on the buttons are blue at night but for some reason it seems to look "OK"

I find the ipod interface is too slow...the NAV is decent. But the Blutooth and Satellite (XM or SIR) works great.

Install was pretty easy and works well with factory Blose amp and speakers.

hmmm...my AC controls are at the top, then the Stereo and then a cubby.
The Bose DSP whatever is at the bottom where your CD storage is.

But that looks pretty good to me. Although I would have Megan Fox in theres instead of giving Porsche that visual real estate.

I have the same set up and just moved the AC controls to where the "tape" holder was, above the DSP in the lower console. Plenty of room for your double din and I've got the Pioneer as well!

That AC control module will move to that lower compartment. I chose to put it on the bottom, eliminate the CD holder and put the little cubby above the AC controls. Makes the cubby a little more accessible at the cost of making the AC controls a little more difficult to see/get to.

what does moving the AC around entail? just a screwdriver job or do I need a special torx wrench or something. Although I'll probably only need to pull out the cubby.
Does the Avic just fit in there flush?

Torx is needed (along with skinny arms and lots of patience) to move the AC. I don't know of any double din that will fit perfect, all require a custom made faceplate I believe.

My wife would not be to thrilled with Megan Fox there!

I moved my AC controls down. Very easy! Porsche makes a trip plate... 6 bucks.
Yes, you need a torx, pretty common if you do any of your own work.

There is a guy on ebay who makes an excellent kit for fitting the AVIC, I used his face plate but painted it so it matched the other plastic bits perfectly.

Excellent thread on Renntech with install info.

I had the DSP (it's not BOSE) in my 01 986S also, as was said you can move the AC to the cubby above it. My CD holder is now gone and replaced with a useful storage bin.

Speakers first, Amp second, Head Unit last. Thats the only order for upgrading your stereo system. The stock speakers are the weakest link. Any upgraded HU will sound bad through the stock speaker, they are junk. Then the amp unit to drive the speakers with decent power. Final step should be the HU. I have focals all around (100KPs in the dash, 5WS in the doors and 100C's in the rear) and a JL Audio 6 channel amp, still running the CDR220 and I will hold my system up to any other system that is still running the stock speakers any day.

I just bought the Kenwood DDX814 after much anxiety trying to find the best solution. Not cheap, but I think it is one of the best units out there.

I felt that the Pioneer Z3 was close, but the Kenwood nav uses a Garmin map loaded internally and a better iPhone interface.

I'll get it installed next Tuesday.

Marv,

Let us know how it works, Probably a good choice, I find the iPOD interface slow on the Z3 and my Garmin (Navtech maps) that I use in my other car is a better nav than the Z3.

Post some pics of the install!

Thats a beautiful GT3!
