Default Thunderhill 996 in-car track video

UPDATED: See Post #10 below...

You know what I did last weekend? Enjoyed my 996... Still the best medicine for a crowded mind.

My fastest lap was a 2:03.7, but the video of that session was overexposed. The attached is a bit slower.

PS: The camera position in first lap resulted in awful sound quality, so I muted it. The 2nd lap has a different camera angle, and the sound was merely poor, so I left it in.

I run a cheapie $20 lapel external microphone from Radio Shack into the engine compartment. Much better sound quality. I love Thunderhill when it's green in the spring. Of course, if it rains a lot, then the mud can be a foe.

Last time I timed myself on Thunderhill, I think I was getting a 2.02 with my Audi S4 station wagon. That was the quickest time I could get running the full course.

Thanks for the video. What a great way to clear the cobwebs. Looks like you were carrying some decent speeds through the corners!!

203.7 on a unmodified stock 996 engine? Nice.

What spring rate, camber setting, and tires are you running?

Yes, the engine is 100% stock. Suspension is the factory X74 kit only. Camber is slight: -0.4 deg front and -1.8 deg rear (that's all we could get without mods). Tires are MPSCups (235/295). Car is otherwise stock and heavy (3,100 lbs with no spare, no gas, no driver).

"jyoteen": You ran a 2:02 in an Audi S4 wagon?!? You sure about that? An intructor-level driver has to concentrate to go that fast in a 996GT3 on R-comp tires. You wanna tell us a little more about that S4? Or was it maybe a 2:22?

Looks like you're battling with understeer - especially coming out of the corners.

Nice looking track!

Update: Just got another second faster... and this time the video sound is good, so turn it up and enjoy!

BTW: this is a new lap record in my PCA time trial class: 2:02.58

The camera angle on the first lap in the first vid gives great sensation of speed, almost looks as if the video is fast forwarding
