Is it in my head? Nothing against the 997 Forum, but I must admit, the 996 forum is much more active and has a greater variety of discussions. Boy, am I glad I have a 996.

Each forum has its pluses and minuses.

It's interesting to watch the evolution of each as the cars age. For example, the vast majority of discussion on the 928 forum is how to fix this and that. Much of the 996 discussion focuses upon what mods people are doing. About 2 years ago the 997 forum was simply one guy comparing this option and that when ordering a car. In time, the 997 forum will evolve into something closer to the 996, while the 991 forum will be consumed with "what option will look good with..."

This is typical of any car forum. Excellent summary Dan. New cars can only distinct themselves with colors and options because aftermarket parts are bing developed. Older cars have the mod options and people are trying to get their best bang for their buck. Old cars just need to find a way to stay on the road or the quirks are popping up here and there.

Cool

All the above, plus the fact that the 997 folks are still under warranty for the most part and so doing mods might void that. Only so much room to play for them right now.
We, however, are not so encumbered. And we have a decade of aftermarket growth to support us. It might actually turn the corner the other way again if you drop back to the 993's because now they are afraid of destroying the originality and resale value of the last air-cooled 911's. We don't have that problem either.

Wait a sec - isn't that supposed to start with "I have a dream..."???

For my part - I don't look at any of the other forums, but I did sign up on a couple of other sites. This site seems to have the most activity... with most of the activity on the other sites coming from guys that are on here too...

What I like about this site is that everyone is willing to help and there is a ready willingness to take the first humorous off-ramp... Renntech, while very informative, is a little dry and I go there for specific reasons... but this place is a great place to "hangout" and raises our common obsession to the level of entertainment... which is why it is one of the windows that stays up on my computer all day...

My $0.02 (and change...)

What I have always liked about Rennlist it is generally a FUN forum, good tech info and people with a sense of humor. It's a good mix for sure.

Yes, sometimes it gets ugly, especially in the Politics arena but if one keeps their perspective it's a great forum for sure.

And this is why some days... I dont get much work done

Well, I think the whole board has slowed down the last couple weeks. I am attributing that to Spring. Not as many folks land-locked in their houses with cabin fever and nowhere else to play, other things to do now, events cranking up in the northern climes, and a slight general thaw in the recession mentality, as well. Porsche owners are not ones to sit on their hands all day and stare blankly into the abyss. Only so much internet and then it's time to DO something!

You must have missed the disregard thread. You should search for it. IMO, THAT is why the 996 forum is better - forget technical discussion!

whats cool about this place is that we have in a way, our own Off Topic... I like Off Topics but those guys over there are just out of control. Here I can post an off topic and not get any sh*t about moving the post to the off topic section... it doesnt always have to be a 996 or car at that.

Tim, I think the moderators killed the Disregard thread because someone posted a pic that was too explicit! All they had to do was delete that one post and we could have moved on. But nooooo..... they deleted the whole thread!
