Ok, now that you have the car nice and shiny and clean, here is the

LA BuddaHead Waterless detail:

1. go over the car w/ a california car duster;
use the small interior duster to get the rims

2. Use Meguire's Quick Mist for any bugs, boogers, etc.

3. Hit the entire car w/ Meguire's Ultimate Quik Wax.
You can even go over the taillights, headlights with this product.

4. Use a Swiffer duster to get the interior.

5. Use a good liquid wax to get any stubborn dirt/dust off the rims.

6. Clean the windows

Do this once a week (should only take 30min). Use the duster daily as needed.
Your car will always look perfect and will never have to touch water.

How do the Meguire's products mix with the Zaino? i.e. Do you do this waterless detail on top of other Meguire's products?

I was planning on keeping the outside clean with Z7 wash and Z6 gloss spray...

Zack,

Car looks awesome!

Where'd you get your wheels painted? I'm looking to get my track wheels painted black (they're Volk TE37s in gunmetal finish).

You'd have to ask the PO - RocC4S on 6speed. I think if you search there, you may find some posts about it. I seem to recall that he had them sand blasted and painted instead of powder coated (something about heat affecting the rims) and that it cost ~$900.

It works just fine.

IMO a regular dry wash is better than wet washes.

You will find that the car will look better, and be easier to maintain.
You will know every inch of it.

Pretty good description of my Sunday ritual. If it doesn't come off with the duster and the Quik Wax, that's my signal to do a full wash... Not quite 30 minutes if everything is stored properly in the garage... One benefit of doing this once a week is that my wife isn't out there asking me why I'm rubbing the car again...

Garage?
It's in the trunk, so I can touch it up whenever I get time. If I do it at work, then the wife doesn't get jealous.

Great idea - only my trunk is fully cooperative. I'm not sure what combination of metaphysical forces needs to be in place for the latch to open, but it certainly doesn't open when I need it to sometimes... I do know that if I try, and it doesn't open, I can go away for some unspecified amount of time then it will open... I do know that it won't open if I need it to when I'm filling up with gas... or when I have the camera stored in there and I come upon the perfect backdrop... and I do know it will open when it has sat in the garage, again for that unspecified amount of time. But, right now figuring that out is a secondary priority...

I think there is a DIY article on removing, repairing and installing the hood latch over on renntech. Sounds like it's an easy thing to fix.

Finally got around to hitting my tips with Mothers and doing most of the following. Got a bunch of grime off with the Quick Mist. The Mother's stuff worked ok, but I was only able to remove about half of the soot from inside the tip -- even with 0000 and 00 steel wool. Any suggestions?

I've been meaning to say how much I love your new avatar... really emphasizes the reason to have a black car... that's really an amazing shot. Probably make a real nice poster too!

If rubbing compound or metal polish is not cutting it, then I would suggest hitting it with a dremmel w/ a wire wheel, then polish.
