Surprised no one has said anything about the flat6innovations oil filter adapter or super duper IMS bearing. I'm seriously considering the oil filter adapter and the oil drain plug. The Mobil 1 can filter is supposed to be the best there is..be nice to use it instead of a plastic cup hanging down. When I need my clutch replaced, I'll consider he IMS bearing replacement, if just for the peace of mind? Anyones thoughts?

 

I agree on both... but like you, when/if I do the clutch because you are already there... The oil filter is a good idea, but literally 10's of thousands of these plastic cups work fine everyday...No need to change, but most likely would be a good idea.

***not to turn this into another oil debate*** Why not run better oil instead of a better oil filter? I went that route a long time ago. I can't say I've ever had an issue with overly dirty oil. I change it pretty often though.

I'd be happy to elaborate on the reason why this was developed and is currently patent pending... I will however, not engage in any chat concerning engine oils or recommendation as thats a battle that can't be won.

The main reason that we teamed up with LN Engineering to create this unit is the fact that it omits the plastic housing and with some filters it can be used to filter 100% of the engine's oil at all times. I also like it because it omits the factory Porsche filter that like most everything else in the M96 engine, was chosen to be "just effective enough" while being cheap to produce....

The data that we have been able to collect from this over the past year has been incredible and those who have used the unit have given it rave reviews from every aspect from ease of installation to effectiveness. The SPOFA (Spin On Filter Adapter) has many benefits, not just the fact that it allows for better oil filtration. The ease of maintenance, cleaner oil services, and the fact that the oil filter is even less messy to recycle are just a few of them.

The unit's ability to accept other accessories to enhance the oil system easily is also a big benefit as it gives a direct access point to the engine's oil system with a couple of other spin on enhancements. This gives the ability to run external oil coolers or an accusump accumulator easily without any machine work done to the engine. It also has the capability to run a "filter mag" to ensure the iron contamination in the oil is reduced as much as possible. On one our test cars we were able to analyze the oil before and after the use of the spin on filter adaptor to monitor it's effectiveness and the tests we did with the filter mag in place along with the Mobil 1 filter the iron elements in the oil were 0% in two different tests.

You do NOT have to pull the engine or even change the oil in your car to install this unit! It can be changed at any time as you only lose 3/4 of one quart of oil when the unit is changed, even with a full oil sump.

The unit has been so successful that I recently produced an instructional video to compliment it's installation and have posted this to youtube. You can see the video here and it should answer lots of the questions concerning ease of installation and effectiveness of the unit. The engine used in the video was full of oil and was between oil services.

BTW- As for the "Super Duper IMS bearing":
It was a development that we HAD to create to be able to create our engine packages. Lots of time went into the bearing update and understanding of why the factory IMS fails. We now have clear indiscations that are substantitated by reports from Bearing Engineers on the topic. We are currently on revision 3 of the unit as we continue to develop better bearings for the unit that are made of superior materials, including space age silicon nitride composite.

Jake, that's great video, andI like the concept, although I have to admit, for a street driven Porsche, with no plans to install any of your other products, I'm not convinced its worth the expenditure.

Lastly, I really think you should consider becoming a sponsor, heck, at least a Member even. JMHO

Whats the price on the oil filter adapter?
Like Anderson said, not sure it makes sence for casual users, the factory one has worked for 100k + miles on thousands of cars....

 

The oil filter adapter is about $140. The IMS bearing is $600 plus installation. I've owned BMWs as well and they both use the same type of cartridge filter. At least Porsche's hangs upside down, so all the oil drains out. That said, I've never been overly crazy about them, even though I've never had an engine issue. The filter pleats allow you to see any debris, though that is small consolation. However, I've had some that were torqued, and close to split. BMW had to redesign theirs when the filter media was found to soften during the "extended" service intervals. There are numerous independent studies on oil filter efficiency (though none that I've seen ever compare spin on with BMW/Porsche cartridge) and the Mobil 1 filter and K&N gold come up on top very often. The adapter is pretty much a no-brainer, like the magnetic drain plug, in that it has a high percentage resale/reuse value, whereas the IMS bearing does not. I was not actively reading the board during the November 08 time period due to work location, so I missed the thread(s) following the Excellence article. Sorry, but it does seem there is still a lot of interest.
