When I bought my 1999 996 the manual release handle for the fuel tank access door was missing. My question is can I just replace the handle? and how do you do it. Just wanted to check with the pro's here before I contact the shop.

 

I believe you need to have the engine turned off and key pulled out before the fuel door can be opened. No release.

 

In the event the lock actuator fails you can manually open the fuel door with the handle,which is located on the passenger side. The one that was in my car was broke off by the previous owner. Thanks.

 

You will need to replace the whole actuator.
