Default non directional tires for 996

Hi Guys,

After my first DE event, my Michelin Pilot Sport 225/40-18 F & 285/30-18 R tires wear out only from the right side, specially the rear tires, I wanted to get more juice from those tires, but found that you can't rotate them right to left because they are directional. Looking for a god replacement I'm thinking on getting non-directional tires that I can rotate with a better tread wear, good handling and to don't be very expensive. Which tires do you recommend that you have used?, I'm looking for street tires with occasional DE usage (every month or every other month).

You can't rotate the wheels, but you can still rotate the tires; you just have to unmount them and switch wheels. Probably not a DIY job (unless your garage is VERY well stocked!), but only about $40/pair at any tire place, and you can stretch many more miles out of a set of tires.

"Non-directional" tires. Hummm, I though only Phil used those tires!

Man, sometimes I really crack myself up!

I've used Bridgestone Potenza RE050A for a quite a few DE events and am happy with them. They're non-directional so I rotate them between DEs. The new Sumitomo HTR Z III has gotten good reviews and I think they're non-directional (not sure), but they're really inexpensive.

Note that neither of these are N-spec tires so you need to decide if you're OK with that. Lots of discussion on this topic.

Conti SC2s are non-directional and I think, at least in C4S sizes, they are N-rated.

I think Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position might be very good tires. But maybe something that might be not that expensive, just to waste them on the track, could be the General Exclaim UHP, BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW2 or the Sumitomo HTR Z ll, (that cost almost half the cost of the Pole's). Has any one tried them. I think directional could be the best type of tires, but if you want to use the tires, and get the most from them, probably non directional are the way to go ( to be able to rotate them and wear them even), where I practice my DE, most of the curves, are left curves, also I was checking their treadwear and performance on the Tire & rack survey, and apparently they look OK.

This will probably generate serious flamming, but my understanding is that directionality (is that a word?) is only important in wet weather as the tread pattern is designed to move water from in front of the tire.

So, if you're DE is dry weather, go ahead and rotate your directional tires around the wrong way. I've done it and the car didn't explode or fly off the track.

You don't see the irony and the humor that non-directional tires are perfect for Phil? Think literally.... "non-directional".....as in "they don't go anywhere."

Yeah, we got it. I have directional tires turned around so they do best in reverse.

Well, at least that is something. Obviously, I thought it was funny!

I guess I have been sitting in front of the computer too much lately. Searching for a job is driving me crazy. Hell, if I stay on my current course, I'm going to end up as crazy as Phil's brother!
