I live in a two plate state...I got stopped all the time for not having a front plate on my Miata, but nobody has ever mentioned it in the 2+ years I've been driving the 996. I've even had a cop look directly at the front bumper the last time I was stopped...no comments.

Well, cops are people too, so I bet a lot of them see the car without the plate and think to themselves, "Y'know, if I had that I wouldn't have a plate either, forget it."

Just got my second warning this past weekend for no front plate by Texas state trooper.

Thanks Eric for that house bill reference. I emailed my state representative today. If anyone else from TX is interested:

Neither one of my cars has a front plate. Each has tinted windows all around.

Life is too short.

Only time I got hassled for no front plate (or tint) was b/c my inspection was expired. I was on my way to get it inspected. Went to court, said it was fixed, they said ok. My plates are also from a different state than I am in 99% of the time, so I havent been hassled by the cops here at all

Put it in your front windshield. I believe this is legal in Texas. Also, Texas has pending legislation to not require 2 plates.

[edit] In case you didn't notice, that was a wrong link. Here is the Texas link:

I actually checked, and the law states it has to be mounted a certain distance from the ground. I originally got questioned when it was up there too. It's now on the side door compartment and no trouble since. Hope it stays that way
