Default Paint difference between 40th edition and normal silver

(I believe) I remember reading that the 40th editions were painted in a metallic silver - the same one used on the CGT. Does anyone have decent pics to show that silver compared to the normal silver used on the 996's? Just curious how different it looks

The 40th is painted in GT Silver and the "other" silver color was Arctic Silver. Someone (I think on the 997 forum) posted a couple of comparison pics showing the difference between the two. I'll see if I can find that post, but the odds of finding it are slim.

GT Silver is brighter than Arctic. Porsche made a Polar Silver a few years ago that was gorgeous - had just a slight tinge of blue in it.

Are the differences actually noticeable for the most part? Or really only if theyre side by side.

I had Artic Silver on a 2002 996 but a computer failure wiped those pics out. This is GT Silver. To an **** Porsche owner there is a difference but to a layman they both look silver.

Eric the Plug Guy has posted the formulas before and the GT Silver has many more colors in it to give it depth and make it reflect more than Arctic.

Probably only noticable when they are side by side. Looking at pics on the web, you can not tell the difference because of lighting and camera setting differences between the pics. That is why you either need to see them side-by-side in the same pic or in person.

We ordered my GF’s Cayman S in GT silver and it is beautiful. To me it looks very different than arctic and polar. GT silver sort of changes colors over the curves of the car in a way that makes it look very unique. You really have to see it in person to see the effect.

I can definately tell a difference, since I see my artic silver everyday. The GT silver has much more depth and a nice blue hue.

Yes, I can believe that.
I can see the difference in those pics but never really noticed before on CGTs.

I had an anthracite blue Passat before that went from dark gray to hues of green and red depending on light and shadows. The paint was full of specks of those colors when you looked close up.

That 997 looks very nice.

GT Silver is a richer deeper and darker shade of silver... and it looks specially fantastic at sunset.

If interested, here's a couple of my very old threads with pictures of my car:

Brand new at a nice Malibu sunset And before getting clear side markers (OK Tim!... )

I guarantee you'll see the effect. Especially when your wife sees your GF's car.

Here you go:

Really hard to see online, but in person it's obvious. GT Silver is a warmer silver than Arctic. This picture shows two different vehicles but same models, just different wheels and color.
