Default Carbon Fiber Dash Overlay Kit

Has anyone applied one of these yet? I really like the look of carbon fiber but coughing up a few $K for the genuine Porsche kit probably won't make it by the wife... There are several sites online that sell the overlay kit in various materials and looks. I'm leaning toward either the black CF or the silver wire CF... looks great in the pictures but... What's the "cheese factor" of the application? Comments or suggestions positive or negative are welcome.

saw those kits too... I am thinking, as with any sticker, they will peel and flake, chip and leave everything sticky when they do. I really like the look too, but not enough to do it that way.........

I say cheese factor is about like chrome 22" wheels on your p-car with the centers that dont spin while driving, a welded chain steering wheel, and a hydrolics..... aka pretty cheesy

Uhmm.... an overlay doesn't sound good to me on the dash. The instillation would have to be PERFECT to possibly pull it off. I would worry about the heat from the sun warping/drying out the material after some time had passed. You could end up with a really bad looking dash. For me, on a scale of 1 to 100, the "cheese factor" would be 100. I wouldn't do it, but that's just me.

The overlays work fine...had it in my Mazda...but I think it would be cheezy in a Pcar.

I used a couple of pieces in my X5 BMW....just to fill up some plastic looks when a wood look.....for the BMW it worked and the wood "stickers" looked about 99% the same as the real wood...the material is thick with rounded edges. I don't see it working on the P interior....it is going to look cheap and bad!!

Think 'Lee Press on Nails'....that's what you get. Forget it.

Yep, decided to not do it, and am unloading everything I bought. It's disappointing, but I have too many other priorities on my time for the foreseeable future. I'll stay with vinyl until my next car I guess.

Deckman, Not a great time for me to be blowing cash on the car..times are tough. but what leather bits are you selling, I found a nice leather horseshoe on ebay (55 bucks new in the box!) that I drooped in and some matching items may be nice. PM me

Thanks!

Marc, I'm down to bits and pieces now. I have the instrument pod in leather, the dashboard mentioned above, the driver side AC vent in leather, and the passenger side door panel. I do want them gone so will be ready to deal with anyone who is interested.

They're black, and please don't call me Chad. He's a nice guy (wherever he's gone to), but that's not me. You can call me deckman, deck, John, or even hey you, but I am not Chad

The dead giveaway to the cheese factor of adding CF parts is if it adds weight to the car, it's cheesy.
