I have been looking for this at local bookstores and have been unable to find it. Does anyone either have an extra they'd be willing to sell or know where I can purchase one? Thanks.

Did you try your local Barns and Noble? That's where I found mine.

Patrick, I bought mine at Barnes and Noble last week and they had probably a dozen copies. Let me know if you can't find one and I'd be happy to pick up another next time by.

If you haven't been able to find it at the bookstore, as it came out a few months ago, check your local, higher-end, grocery store. I actually picked up a copy at Publix here in GA. I've read through the whole thing and its great, but it does get a little old as most of the articles are comparisons or tests and how many times can you stand to read about a description of the flat-six revving..or arbitrary language about turn-in and grip ect. But as noted, its great for how much positive 996 opinion there is in it. Also: with all the concern and back-and-forth over the reliability of the M96 (I have a 99'), every now and then, I'd start the car and there'd be an incessant ticking which never helped ease my mind, though it went away after warming up. The 996 article mentions this issue and states: "if on cold days are after having not driven the car for some time, the M96 engine is proning to ticking. Don't worry, its just the valve tappets clicking before they get their full coat of oil" That put my mind at ease.

I just stopped at the local strip mall Barnes and Noble - they had five or so copies on the shelves (one less now)... I went half expecting them to be out but was surprised at how many were left...

EVO has a special edition magazine out now called “Porsche Supercars” in which it has an article about the 996. The article appears very good, although I only had time to quickly skim through it. I didn’t buy the magazine because I didn’t have time to stand in the long line at the register.

Here are a couple of notable comments from the article:

-The 996 Carrera(I believe it was the Carrera) was named the EVO car of the year in 1998.
-EVO achieved a 0-60 time of 4.6 sec. for the 996 Carrera.

They mention that the recent drop in prices for the 996 could be attributed in part to the fact that it looks a bit dated when compared to the new 997. Also, they say that the 996 offers the best value in terms of used high performance cars in today’s market.

Has anyone else seen this article? The magazine is filled with tons of great articles about iconic Porsches both new and old. The magazines cover shows the rear of an orange 997 GT3RS.
Thanks for sharing this info, I will look at Barns and Nobel. Halvin hot wheels

Okay - I brought this issue as my travel companion on this business trip (anyone from CO Springs out there? OMG it's cold! No wonder you guys put your toys away in the winter...) Anyway, Wow - what a great read! The pictures, the text, the topics perfect for the pcar-phile... Now that I've cracked the binder from reading it, I'm going to have to run over and get another issue to put away... couldn't recommend this issue more...

Lots of great articles, Porsche and other, in this mag over the years. Gotta say it's kind of lost the magic over the last year though. R. Meaden and a couple others left to start DR and it just hasn't been the same. My favourite EVO/Porsche article? Mk. 1 996GT3, Speed Yellow, on the Targa Florio, Feb. 2001. Great writing and awesome photography.

The loss of Dickie and Jethro was a bummer for sure. I actually considered letting my subscription lapse because of their departure. If Evo loses Barker, too, I have to wonder if the mag would recover. That said, I am starting to like Vivian and Catchpole has really come into his own.

DR is nice, as you would expect. Maybe the digital magazine is the way of the future. But I like being able to hold magazines in my hand rather than having to sit at a computer screen to read them.
