Default 996 article in the new EVO “Porsche Supercars” magazine

EVO has a special edition magazine out now called “Porsche Supercars” in which it has an article about the 996. The article appears very good, although I only had time to quickly skim through it. I didn’t buy the magazine because I didn’t have time to stand in the long line at the register.

Here are a couple of notable comments from the article:

-The 996 Carrera(I believe it was the Carrera) was named the EVO car of the year in 1998.
-EVO achieved a 0-60 time of 4.6 sec. for the 996 Carrera.

They mention that the recent drop in prices for the 996 could be attributed in part to the fact that it looks a bit dated when compared to the new 997. Also, they say that the 996 offers the best value in terms of used high performance cars in today’s market.

Has anyone else seen this article? The magazine is filled with tons of great articles about iconic Porsches both new and old. The magazines cover shows the rear of an orange 997 GT3RS.

I have the mag... just read first few pages, where they voted the 73 2.7 RS as being the ultimate 911 over the 964rs, 993rs, 996 gt3/gt2 and even the 993gt2... the 2.7 rs must be a bad *** to top those much faster 911s'.

Interesting. I'll pick it up on my way home from doing my oil change tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up.

I have the magazine. I thought the article on the 996 was fantastic. The appear to love every version of the 996. I enjoyed how they referred to the base 996 C2 as an affordable supercar. I highly recommend adding it to your Porsche library.

Does the article cover anything on the 996 40th Anniversary?
TIA

What month is this Evo "Porsche Supercars" Magazine? January, 2009? This article is not mentioned on their website.

I believe that the magazine is a collection of articles spanning a number of years -- from early 2000's up through '08. The 996 article appears to have been written shortly after the introduction of the 997 (based on date references in the article). Think "best of Porsche" from Evo.

I've had the mag for a couple of weeks now and have thoroughly enjoyed every article in there. This one is being saved for good.

I grabbed a copy along with a 5-gallon Frappucino. Both were awesome.

Are there any interesting tech articles or is it mostly fluff?

I may make a trip to the book store.

This volume would be an excellent addition to my Porcelain Library collection...
