Really?

Wouldn't you say this is a pretty blatant recommendation?

WOW, this is an great thread. NOT!!!

But WTF, I guess it will have to do until we get another "All 996 engines blow" or "Did you see the 996 on Ebay for $2,500?" thread.

Carry on ladies.

sorry guys - did not know this would create a hoopla. Been awhile since I've been on here.

Can someone still explain why in the FAQ section, it recommended mixing 5W30 with 15W50 (4 quarts each approximately)?

When I asked my dealership yesterday (HBL of Tyson's) - they said 0W40, 5W40, 15W50, and even 5W30 are okay to use if Mobil 1 or Castrol Synthentic depending on frequency of oil change (5W30 if every 3K is okay they said). They said typically, people use 0W40; but, 5W40 is just as fine. They said you can mix weights as long as it is the same brand -- 2+ quarts of 15W50 with remainder of 0W40, etc.

Just wondering if anyone else mixed weights? The FAQ section is first time I've seen a write-up suggesting the mixture of weights.

Also, do you guys use BG MOA, BG 44K, or other products in conjunction with fuel fillups/oil changes?

Thx

There is nothing wrong with mixing weights or brands of oil if you want to. I often mix a quart of conventional oil in my cars.

'99 - have you tried 50wt. Valvoline Racing T oil? That stuff is uber slimy, like gear oil.

You wipe for days and the stuff just sticks to everything, hell, it throws an @$$ whooping on hand cleaners......

I would mix some quarts of that in Mobil 1 to get more ZDDP. Not sure how the cats would like it though.

There shouldn't be hoopla but for some reason there are a handful of topics that seem to get this forum going. Oil is one of them.

FWIW, I would never take advice on what oil to use from this forum. If you are going to own a Porsche you really need to find a good service manager or an independent Porsche mechanic that you trust to give you good advice. Tell them about your driving habits, climate, frequency of oil changes, etc and listen to their advice.

Why not just pick from the list Porsche provides for the car?
