Perhaps I will stick with the 18's, I already know what to expect in terms of performance and looks. I thank all of you for your input.

Just a note,--when Porsche started design work on the 997 they wanted to stick with the same parts for the suspension as found on the 996. But they had designed to go to 19 inch rims for whatever reason. When they began testing the 996 suspended 997s with 19 inch rims they literally destroyed the suspensions. So, go figure out what you want to do,--look good, or be safe.

Just FYI; I think 18s look OK on a 996 too. When I ordered Champion RG5s after listing the pros/cons, I stayed 18s. (of course I was banished from 6speedonline )

Jon,

That's good because their loss is our gain!

Hey, thanks! This has been a fun place to visit! It is really fun to have instant advice and even pictorals on everything from brakes to radar detector installation. BTW, had one of those rare MN days where it is cold (19F) but the road had FINALLY dried out. Just drove all around today, putting on 130 miles in all. . .

The wheels are Iforged Essen's btw.

Iforged is a good wheel. I think are a bit on the heavy side, but a quality wheel.

Yes, that is normal to smoke the inside edges or your tire. I am now R&R my rear tires from rim to rim every 4K miles in an attempt to double my mileage. I am now on my 3rd set of rears with the same fronts (which look brand new still). It's much cheaper to have them dismounted and rotated to the opposite sides than to replace the tires.

Are the roads that bad in so cal that you need four inches of fender clearance on the 911 or are you using it as a rally car?

I've heard the LR are great cars when they're actually running.
