Default Found a winter resident in my trunk!!

I found signs of a mouse who decided to use a clean t-shirt rag in my trunk as his winter home today.

It is unbelieveable that there are holes in our car which allow a mouse to get in. My car has never been in an accident so ....

I cleaned out my trunk and set two mouse traps in there. Let the hunting begin. I just hope it does not make a mess....

For those of us who do not drive our cars often, it is probably a good idea to check the car for residents. (Paging Phil)

It's the Porsche "murine storage" option - $875. I didn't order it with my car, so I should have no problems over the winter. Only problems I saw last year (other than the leaking battery) were a large and happy population of stinkbugs living in the garage where I store it. But, no signs of any mouse droppings. They wouldn't dare ....

Mice like warm areas.... last year your car was cold, be careful driving this year and getting it warmed up as that might be an invitation....

You really don't want to give him more excuses.

I hope you don't forget to check the traps before August. I you do forget to do that, it could get a little "ripe" in the trunk!

It was cold because it's damned cold here today. No mouse would be happy out there right now. I'd want to be hiding also... that reminds me I'd better go and take the batter charger off of my car and close the trunk.

Ferdinand,

I have no idea how it got there. My car is in an indoor public parking garage so trickle charger is not an option. Its a concern for me now.

Tim,

I am leaving the country again this week and return end of January. I have made a note in my Outlook task list to check them traps. I hope the little bugger likes apple pieces.

Wayne,

Invest in a few mouse traps and put them in your garage. It is a few dollars and just cannot hurt. Can you imagine if the mouse starts to chew wiring? I would just send the car to Mfletch(Mark) and beg him to rewire it.

They can squeeze in some incredibly tight spaces. The gap between the hood and battery compartment would probably be enough.

Any time I stored cars over the winter I've always used a few dryers sheets. They keep mice away like a dream.

Can you explain further? Why dryer sheets? Just toss a few dryer sheets in the trunk?

The first option that comes to mind, if you're going to leave again for 2 weeks or more, would be to pull your batt, bring it inside, and set a trickle charger on it there.
