Not in my experience. A buddy of mine has an '01 Z06 that was dead stock other than exhaust and the thing weighed 3107 with a full tank.

I think it's because parts regularly fall off the Corvette on it's way to the scales.

Even with race seats, LWFW and lightweigt wheels I'm not sure I can get down to 2900 lbs without taking stuff out that really starts to compromise it's primary use as a street car.

What was the weight?

My e46 M3 weighed in at 3230lbs. No sunroof, no backseats, lightweight battery and 1/4 gas...

I was just reading about the GT3 roof skin (no sunroof) and it's $250 at my dealer. Tempting (and yes i'm aware what's involved in install). A set of seats would save more weight however, and greatly improve the feel/experience. But then again, how much does the tequipment roll bar weigh...

I ask because this winter I am really looking to get some more headroom; 6'1" and helmet sucks.

I think it was 3048 with a full tank.

stock seats though, full leather car, CD changer, Xenon's, sunroof, etc. I only cut weight where It wouldn't effect the use of the car.

I suppose with an empty tank with race seats and I could claim 2900...I tend to weigh everything completely full of fuel though for consistancy.

I thought about the roof delete...couldn't justify it as I'm 5' nothing.

'99 C2 all up, on the scales at Roebling Road Raceway was 3051. C6 'Vette behind me was 96 lbs more.
Plastic v steel is my opinion.

it is really dissapointing that a small looking 996 is only 96 lbs lighter than a v8 corvette which looks way bigger and definetly looks heavier....

I would imagine a later model 996 is actually heavier than the C5. The C6 vette is lighter, shorter, wider than the 997, and has quite a bit more power.

Well that depends on what you want out of the car. They're better in many ways, and worse in many others. I prefer how Porsches feel, but as a Porsche fan it makes me feel odd that a 1997 Corvette makes the same power as a 2009 911S while weighing a good bit less. Of course the current C6 weighs less still, makes more than 430hp and is shorter than both the C5 and the 997. Good luck finding a 911 w/out a sunroof, and have to pay extra for that LSD as well. My WRX that cost <$30k new comes with 2 LSDs. :/

I'm a bit conflicted about Porsche, but since there are no viable alternatives for a rear engine rwd car, I'm stuck...

I've seen a claim that a Corvette engine weighs less than a Porsche H6. Of course, that was by some company that puts Corvette engines in the backs of 911s and I can't verify the claim. An aluminum small block is an amazingly light and compact engine for the power. People make fun of the OHV engineering but it's lighter and tighter than OHC.

well i still love my 996...but just that one can buy a 2006-2008 vette for around 35-40usd and with way more power and almost same wieght----still sounds good.........but as i said i love my 996 and will probably end up with SC and a 25-50 shot of NOS....====450HP.... a very nice sleeper..........

You want weight??? I'll give you WEIGHT!!!

This wasn't quite what I envisioned when a local photographer asked if he could use my car to take a few pics of a model in a bikini.

My car was never the same again!!
