Erase key memory/seat memory
#31
I unmounted again the door sil yesterday and, under the buttons, I see 4 connectors: 1 for the trunk button, 1 for the engine compartment button (those 2 first are white connectors) and 2 black ones for the seats buttons.
When I unplug the first one of those 2 (the one which is more at the front side of the car), no button is working anymore (no light behind the buttons and none of the memory button is functional). Replugging it, it goes back to the previous state: all buttons lighs are working, but the M button doesn't seem functional.
If I unplug the second one (the black one which is more at the back side of the car), it seems that nothing changes (actually, I 'm not sure anymore, maybe nothing works as with the first connector).
Still, I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Is there any other connector somewhere that could be unplugged?
Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone!
I still didn't find the solution to my problem. But I still have some more elements regarding the symptoms though:
->I cannot store any memory position (I tried every procedure I found online)
->When I push the "key" button only, nothing happens
->I can change my seat position when I'm not driving. Starting from about 5 km/h, I connot do it anymore. I have to stop and at least open the door to be able to do it again ( I do not know if this is the normal behaviour)
-> A Porsche owner close to my place has the PIWIS equipments and nicely made a few tests on my car: the "M" button itselfs is working (it is actually sending on the car the network the "Hey guys, I'm pushed" message), from the PIWIS interface you can save the current position to memory 1 or 2, BUT you cannot set any position directly using the actual buttons on the car ...
That is really really strange. I do not know what to do...Can anywone of you guys give me some hints?
Thanks very much in advance!

Hi everybody! As when the PIWIS sends the order to the seat module, the module stores the position, and as each button one by one seems to works, I would suspect that there is some short circuit within the module where the buttons are located that would prevent any signal to go out of it when "M" and "1" or "2" are pressed...
Do you think it could be that and that I should change the bloc with the buttons?

I could not program any of the memory buttons (M, key, 1, or 2) as well as the annoying position with the keyless so I decided to take this apart from the door sil. I found that the little clip was unhooked and now everything works 100%. I was even able to program it to my key! It takes two seconds to check so its worth a shot. Just pull straight up on the module with the memory buttons and look at the tiny clip that plugs into the seat memory.

Old thread I know, but do you really just pull straight up? Mine seems very tight, and I don't want to break the trim piece. The ends pop up fine, but then I can't get anything beyond about 6" form the end loose. My Bentley manual shows a 996.1 and says there are torx screws hidden behind caps. When I pop the caps on my 996.2, there is just carpet behind it.

liem1997 directions work perfectly. I Recently inherited a 2001 911 Carrera. This memory seat issue just had to be fixed, as the seat position tied to the key was all the way forward. These instructions worked like a charm, 1st try! I held for 5 seconds at every step. Easiest fix ever! Thanks for posting.

Bumping this up from the dead.
Is there any way to disable the "key memory"? I occasionally drive my kids around in the back seat and push the seat forward a little. Every time I lock/unlock the car it goes back to my preset key position.

I had the same issue with my key fobs as most of the other guys - on unlocking the car with either of my keys, the seat would return to some other default base position. I then had to move the seat to my preferred driving position every time I used the car. I'd tried using the reset instructions in the car's manual without success. I decided to try liem1997 detailed instructions and successfully re-programmed both key fobs.

Same issue here....main key when unlocking car seat moves to memory position, I have tried the above and doesn't work for me. I am now using the 2nd key due to the 1st key unlocking rubber tearing and waiting now for replacement case. The 2nd key stays in the position when I unlock it for a drive
