Default I accidentally washed my key / remote....

When I first fount it in the washer I took it out and tried it and it did not work. Will it work when it dries out or is it done? Anyone?

my advise would have been to NOT use it before it dries out, but that is past, Open it up (check manual for battery replacement) and let it dry for a day or so (if you have a warm area, water heater, forced air heat in house that would be great, dont get it HOT though) and then try it... I would bet it works, but after using it wet, I would say 50/50 chance....
GL, love to hear a happy reply so we all know.

I agree - you may or may not be screwed... My wife has washed her VW key 3 or 4 times - usually they work after drying out, but one time it died and we needed a new key.

At least for VW, the good news is that the immobilizer chip is with the key blade, so it was a simple replace and reprogram for the door lock part (i.e. no dealer required).

I second that.

I had the car key and even my cell phone in the wash.
Removed the batteries and let them dry for 3 days.
Both worked fine again, and still do.
I woudn't use hair dryers or compressed air, just give it enough time.

Hair drier is OK if on cold.

is this with the 3.4 or 3.6???.... if its the 3.4 let it dry completely... it could blow your engine.

If its the 3.6 let it dry and upgrade to the newer key mod... (can cause the engine to blow, but not so much)

Update. I tried it thes morning and it worked. I just left it out in the garage overnight. Right now we have warm temps and pretty low humidity do it seems to have dried out.

I will consider the upgrade however..

Let the keyboard dry before using it. Suggest a low RH storage room for 21 hours.

That's silly, there is no eveidence that the replacement cost of transplanting a 3.6 for a 3.4 is worth the added effort and cost. I stand firmly in 3.4 territory....

I need to get a key for my wife, and then wash the key so it gets wet. Then if I try the key while it is still wet, maybe she will blow my "engine!"

I got Mobil 1 0W 40 on my key, and it's been smoking every since . . .

[on-topic: I actually soaked my cell phone once. When it dried completely it came back and worked fine.]
