one of my teachers had a 911. 2004, he was a teacher for like 10 years or something. he drove the most POS until the 911 but still when he got it, i got to drive it..., and of course he had the biggest smile.
don't worry everyone drives a honda one time in their life, it does stand for Had One Never Drove it Again, for a reason. as much as they are decent cars. i dont tend to like em

Congratulations! I would agree FINALEE is right. When I first got my P car some people would jokingly say “midlife crisis” but I tell them the real crisis is I couldn’t have a Porsche 25 years ago when I first fell in love with them.
GL and let the mods begin.

Hopefully this isn't kicking a dead horse - just came back to review the thread to find a vendor for the bumperplugs and side markers...
Jugger - thanks! You're right, Hooters would have been a better place, but I have this irrational desire to probe the depths of my wife's sense of humor... I think she's run out of some, the pole I used when we first got married is wayyy too long.
MedTech - I'll be on the lookout for that Palomar Mountain run... I've only done it a couple of times, but driving up that road in my truck even made me sick a couple of times... hopefully the exhilaration of driving in a car made for that drive will be distracting enough to not get carsick... And yes, ruined for other cars a long time ago... by a high school PE teacher no less... we all guessed that she was the trophy wife of a man of means... which is why she drove that nifty mid-70s Targa (912?) to school... the shape of her car (or maybe it was her) was enough for me... (I guess that pegs my wait [and age] by about 30 years...)
Raphael - I dodge the LAish traffic by going to work really early and leaving really early... hopefully no one thinks less of me, but rush hour traffic is the reason I got tiptronic... While I was in shopping mode, one dealer offered a car I thought I wanted, but when I went to look, it was manual... one of the other salesmen told the guy that was helping me for me to "man-up" and get this car... but admitted to the guy that was helping me that he wasn't interested in telling me to my face... (I'm sort of linebackerish, and really interested in finding some wider seats than the stock ones - anyone have any ideas?)
Thanks again to all for the welcome and congrats!

Congrats on your new P-car. Beautiful example.
I had wanted one since 1964 (I was 12), when the first 911s came along. FINALLY scraped enough to buy a 996 earlier this year. Owning a Porsche is a milestone of sorts, but as I continually have to remind my friends: You don't have to be a millionaire to drive a Porsche. You just have to prioritize.
As for the wife, doesn't she have some hobbies of her own she can busy herself with so as to get off your back???? Jeeeeeezzzzz......

Ghost - Your "finally" pretty much describes mine and yes a milestone... my wife and I were watching a TV show (I don't remember which), but the discussion was infidelity - something to the effect of at such and such an age, you either go with the twenty-something or the sports car... I picked the sports car figuring it would be a lot cheaper (from experience - she's wife #3... it think I would have had a p-car much earlier in life if I were a little better at picking women when I was younger...)
Yes she does have other hobbies, but bless her heart, she always makes time for me (to hassle)...https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif

That is awesome!
have you seen this video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRbzJ0L1Zn8
its an old commercial for Porsche and sums it up pretty well for me. Some people think you are rich... I bet their piece of crap (insert Jap car name here)was more money than my P-Car. This is NOT a mid life crisis, it is a life long obsession!
